French Kiss will sing opening for “SKET DANCE” + Kashiwagi Yuki will voice act

It’s been announced that AKB48’s sub-unit French Kiss (consisting of Kashiwagi Yuki, Takajo Aki, and Kuramochi Asuka) will be singing the theme song for the anime “SKET DANCE“, which starts on April 7th. Kashiwagi will also be voice acting in the anime as the main character Bossun’s younger sister, Rumi. This is the first time a song by an AKB48 sub-unit has been used as an anime opening theme.

“SKET DANCE” is a popular manga currently being serialized in “Weekly Shonen Jump” (the same magazine as Naruto, BLEACH, and ONE PIECE). It follows the misadventures of a trio of students known as the Sket Dan, as they attempt to solve the problems of the staff and classmates at their school.

As this is her first time trying to voice act, Kashiwagi commented,

“It was really hard. I received advice from professional voice actors and worked extremely hard… [When voice acting], you have to be aware of things like speaking groggily if it’s a scene in the morning, which is something people don’t normally notice, so the recording was extremely difficult. It made me appreciate how an anime is made.”

She also compared the manga to her group, saying,

“I think ‘SKET DANCE’ is popular because of the chaos that Sket Dan creates on campus. That part is similar to AKB48. We (French Kiss) are very happy and honored to sing the opening theme for an anime with so many funny and moving moments.”

AKB48 sub-unit French Kiss was selected as “principals for a day” for Tokyo Fire and Disaster Management Agency’s Fire Fighting School.

March 1st is the beginning of the spring fire prevention exercises in Tokyo, and the girls are out to make people more aware of where they’re making fires. The girls are also in charge of giving the firefighter’s directions for the day and watching them train.

Member Kashiwagi Yuki gives a friendly reminder to everyone, “You need to be careful of where you make fires!! Everyone, pay attention, okay? ♪♪“.
