Recent tweets that were written by former Jewelry member Jo Harang regarding her university professor degrading her celebrity status in front of the class has been stirring a controversy over the singer dissing her professor in return.

On March 4th, Jo Harang told Star News through a phone conversation, “It’s true that I wrote those tweets myself. However, it was not my intention to diss my professor – it was just to express my upset feelings at the time.”

According to Jo Harang, there was a slight misunderstanding with her professor on the first day of one of her classes, which resulted in Harang being humiliated in front of her juniors.

Harang tweeted,
“A: ‘Hey you, you’re a celebrity?’
B: ‘I act and sing.’
A: ‘Is she famous? You dunno either?! What kind of celebrity is that?!’

B: ‘I’m an actress.’
A: ‘Did I say anything that’s not correct?! I’ve never even seen your face, what kind of celebrity is that.’

Are people allowed to kill others with words like that?

I want to lean on her, but whenever I call her, I only ask about her well-being. The only way my mother doesn’t worry is for me to be confident, so I end up suffering by myself.. Who am I supposed to lean on?”

When friends of Harang left words of comfort after her first tweet, the singer replied, “I just laughed, cause like they said I’m not famous. Let’s see in two years time. Although there was a time when I volunteered to teach kids, should a person even be allowed to teach others when they themselves haven’t built up their own characters?… I’m doubtful.”

Later Harang left a message on her Twitter which read,  “I had a bit too much to drink, I cried a lot… In one flash of a moment, I got treated as less than a human being in front of the juniors I love… My confidence has broken. The scene I laughed off keeps repeating in my head. Seeing myself keeping my manners even during the dirtiest of moments… I’m so stupid.”

The singer deleted the tweets on the afternoon of the 4th, and despite the clarity of her tweets, Harang denied the information that has been spreading across the media, as she stated, “All the tweets that are being referred to in articles has no connection with what had actually happened at the time.”

“Many articles misinterpreted and over-exaggerated many parts of my tweets. I didn’t think the words I wrote to express my saddened heart would become this much of a huge issue. I feel that I was thoughtless and imprudent.”

She continued, “I want to apologize if my words gave any damage to my professor. I will be visiting my school this afternoon to resolve any misunderstandings. I still love Dong Kook University, and I’m highly proud of being a student there. I’m saying this again, but my personal words were misrepresented, and I apologize to anyone out there who were affected.”

Jo Harang is currently a junior at Dong Kook University as a fine arts major.
