AKB48’s producer, Akimoto Yasushi, has confirmed that he’s creating a “Taiwan48“! Akimoto expressed that he came up with the idea when he appeared on TV program, “Ima Sekai wa“, last Sunday.

The project is already underway with a local television network in Taiwan. While “Taiwan48″ is still a tentative name, they plan on documenting the entire process through TV, starting this summer. Like AKB48, “Taiwan48″ will have their own theater where the group will perform daily.

Akimoto previously stated that he has plans to create more idol groups like AKB48 around the world. He’s already received offers from several countries including Singapore, Thailand, China, Hong Kong, and Russia.
