According to reports, Ookubo Shouichirou, one of the screenwriters for the beloved anime “Lupin the Third” unfortunately passed away on February 11th.

He had been previously hospitalized for a stroke, he was 63 years old when he passed away quietly at the hospital. He is mourned by his wife Ookubo Masako.

“Lupin the Third” began as a manga in 1967, and spawned three successive seasons of anime lasting from 1971 until 1985. The series has been acclaimed by critics across the world, and has even attracted the attention of Steven Spielberg. The story follows the adventures of Arsène Lupin III and his group of thieves, who steal treasures from around the world. Other works by the screenwriter include the televised dramas “Hana no Kaze” and “Shabondama.”

A funeral has already been planned for Ookubo, and will be held at a funeral hall in Hachiouji on the 19th.
