The ladies of SECRET are greeting the Lunar New Year with a proud heart because of the significant progress in their careers.

Ever since their debut in October of 2009, SECRET managed to make a name for themselves in a bustling industry full of competing girl groups. Recently, they came out on top with a music program win for their comeback single, “Shy Boy.”

Zinger said, “I think we’ll be able to visit our families with a lot more pride. We feel that we’ve become daughters our parents and relatives would be proud of.”

Sunhwa added, “Honestly, my aunts didn’t like the idea of me debuting in the entertainment industry because they were worried about all of the hardships I’d face. I think I’ll finally be able to put those concerns at rest now, so I’m glad.”

Unfortunately, the girls won’t be heading home to visit their families, as they have an advertisement filming lined up on the day of the holiday. While they’re grateful for the strong interest SECRET is receiving, they couldn’t help but feel a little put out at not being able to go home.

Luckily, their parents plan to stop by the dorm with some homemade dishes and rice cake soup to cheer up the girls.

Leader Hyosung mused, “My hometown is in Cheongju, and although I won’t be able to make it home, I’m thankful that so many people will be coming to visit instead. If I were able to go home, I would’ve gone vacationing with my family, as well as eat all my favorite foods to my heart’s content (laughter).”

Sunhwa, whose hometown is in Busan, added, “Every year, I went to Milyang to my grandmother’s house, but I won’t be going this year. I’m the oldest granddaughter so she’ll probably miss me very much; although I’m disappointed in not being able to go, we’ll be appearing in a lot of Lunar New Year’s specials, so I’m sure my grandma can enjoy watching those instead.”

The girls are also planning their own celebration in their dorm. Hyosung explained, “On January 1st, Sunhwa cooked us rice cake soup and promised to cook it for us again on the Lunar New Year. It’d be nice if you all could taste it… Ji Eun loves rice cake soup, so I’m sure she’d love it. Out of all the Lunar New Year’s dishes, Zinger likes the meat dishes best, so maybe we should give that a try as well.”

The holidays are a time of great reunions, but sometimes they could also cause a little tension. Ji Eun gave her tips on how to spend a happy holiday by stating, ”Our household is unique in that the men make the food, not the women. The women have fun chatting away a happy holiday instead. We’re sure that you’ll be able to spend a more meaningful holiday if the men help the women cook and prepare.”

Zinger revealed, “In our household, the young children put on a talent show for the adults, just like ‘Star King,’ and receive their New Year’s cash. It helps us become closer as a family.”

Now that they’re all in their 20’s, the girls revealed that they’d rather receive a boyfriend instead of monetary New Year’s gifts. Although their busy schedules make it an unrealistic wish, talks of potential future boyfriends get them excited all the same.

Hyosung confessed with a laugh, “Even in my dreams, I hope for ‘Kim Juwon’ from “Secret Garden” to appear as my boyfriend. I’m going to be sleeping as much as possible over the break in order to make it happen.”

Sunhwa added, “I also wish for a boyfriend, but I have friends who have been with me since elementary school. Go Eun Young, Jang Seung Mi, Kim Sumin, and Choi Yesol – I’m sure they’d be happy if I wrote their names in an article, hehe.”

The girls concluded, “We hope that everyone spends a fun holiday with their family and relatives. And we know we mentioned this earlier, but please look forward to our Lunar New Year program appearances!”
