散發陰鬱特質的好萊塢搖滾美型男Jared Leto，這位多次榮獲People雜誌選為「全球50位最美麗人物」的新生代男星，可說是影壇當中，最勇於嚐試不同富有挑戰角色的實力派小生。而Jared Leto對藝術表演的熱忱，不只限於戲劇演出，更展現在音樂上面。就在1998年，由Jared擔任主音、哥哥Shannon Leto擔任鼓手，所成立的超悍EMO樂團「30秒上火星30 Seconds To Mars」，順利在2002推出首張同名專輯《30 Seconds To Mars》，這張勇奪熱門潛力榜冠軍的作品，讓大家見識到Leto兄弟的不容小覷的音樂才華。於2005年發表的第二張專輯《A Beautiful Lie》再度開出銷售紅盤，及滿獲樂評盛讚的好成績，專輯果然不負眾望勇奪白金唱片的認證。實力與偶像特質兼具的30 Seconds To Mars，出道之後，更累計榮獲12座MTV音樂大獎、六座搖滾指標大獎Kerrang! Awards、三座TRL Awards、三座Fuse Awards…的大獎的提名肯定。

距離上一張專輯，已有將近兩年的時間，三人再度集合帶來第三張專輯《This Is War》展現出全新氣象。新作特地請出英國教父級音樂人Flood（Depeche Mode、U2、The Killers），以及葛萊美獎製作人Steve Lillywhite（Matchbox Twenty、Travis、Jason Mraz），兩大天王級製作人，共同編織嶄新的搖滾樂章，專輯一推出各大權威媒體都以近滿分的超高評價大力推薦：Rock Sound（9/10）、 Kerrang!（4/5）、Alternative Press（4/5）。隨著專輯單曲的陸續推出，30 Seconds To Mars的人氣及聲勢日益高漲，藉由這張《This Is War》樂團再度爬向音樂事業的新高峰。新作在Kerrang! Awards當中，榮獲四項大獎提名，並抱走「最佳國際樂團Best International Band」獎項，主唱Jared Leto更被選為The Rock Icons of the 21st Century（第六名）、Hero of The Year（第四名）、以及Sexiest Male（第一名）。Rock Sound也選出〈Kings and Queens〉成為2009「最佳年度歌曲」及「最佳年度音樂錄影帶」。在之後的音樂盛事，MTV音樂大獎及MTV歐洲音樂大獎當中，樂團全都榮獲三項大獎提名，並分別奪回「最佳搖滾音樂錄影帶Best Rock Video」及「最佳搖滾樂團Best Rock」。

On This Is War, 30 Seconds to Mars shift their music with the shifting times, adopting a hybrid of the Killers' retro new wave and My Chemical Romance's gothic prog, winding up with a sound that suits their stance. Producers Steve Lillywhite and Flood, both veterans of U2, do give This Is War an appropriately epic scale, helping to bring into focus this mix of synth rock, metal, and prog flavors with Auto-Tuned vocals, gurgling synthesized loops, Kanye cameos, and a children's choir on almost every other song. This move toward goth-glam requires 30 Seconds to emphasize hooks and gives them aural variety, which makes this their most appealing album. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
