From Cheyenne Marie Mize's upcoming October 12 album Before Lately, "Friend" is minstrel-flavored banjo folk that borders on the strange (video-wise) while highlighting Mize's moody atmospheres and dramatic appeal. As we noted in our preview feature, the Kentucky-based songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist (and collaborator of sorts with Will "Bonnie 'Prince' Billy" Oldham) "treads softly in Americana folk, flickering torch ballads and spacious chamber pop of somber melancholy."
