Newcomer and your Featured Artist of the Month Jason Derulo has come a long way to get where he is now. Starting his career writing music for sometime he was then discovered by producer J.R. Rotem who signed him to his label Beluga Heights/Warner Bros. Once single "Whatcha Say" was released it quickly became a worldwide hit and became his first #1 single. Proving that he isn't just a one hit wonder he already has second single "In My Head" holding the #9 position on the Billboard Hot 100. As for the album it's completely produced J. R. Rotem and all the songs were written by Derulo. It's an album filled with radio ready pop/r&b tracks that will have you going for repeated plays. 打造白金銷售、排行榜流行舞曲的王牌製作人J.R. Rotem所成立之Beluga Heights唱片公司最新旗下藝人，正式成為Sean Kingston的同門師弟－Jason Derulo，去年還只是個無名小卒，雖然是以相當短的時間瞬間爆紅，可是走紅的背後故事是：Derulo自年幼時期即開始對音樂的理想付出及努力。Derulo自8歲就開始創作，模仿麥可傑克森的舞步、Usher與Justin Timberlake的歌唱技巧，且攻讀表演學校，學習舞蹈、戲劇、歌唱，17歲即替南岸名饒舌歌手Birdman寫作並合唱了「Bossy」，從幕後崛起建立起知名度，之後又陸續替Lil’ Wayne、吹牛老爹力捧的Cassie與Danity Kane寫作，也因此被Rihanna、Sean Kingston、Britney Spears的幕後推手、流行舞曲王牌製作人J.R. Rotem的弟弟、同時也是J.R. Rotem成立的Beluga Heights唱片公司合夥人Tommy Rotem給相中，起先J.R. Rotem未探見他的巨星潛力，沒想到兩人第一次進錄音室就擦出意想不到的火花，J.R. Rotem才發現他的才華不只這樣，絕對是可加以雕塑的音樂奇才，決定將Derulo簽入旗下，成為Beluga Heights與華納音樂集團首度合作力捧的2010年年度新人。
早在2009年率先打出的首支單曲「Whatcha Say」，即以驚人的續航力停留全美數位單曲榜Top 10長達19周，於告示牌熱門單曲榜上也在登上冠軍席次之後持續停留在Top 10裡10周，「Whatcha Say」與J.R. Rotem先前所製作過Sean Kingston的「Beautiful Girl」、Rihanna「SOS」，還有Leona Lewis「Better In Time」等作品都有著相同的共通點，那就是歌曲本身都有著不可置信、聽過一次絕對忘不了的洗腦特點，Jason Derulo在「Whatcha Say」當中取樣了英國獨立女歌手Imogen Heap的「Hide And Seek」，當中的’Mmmm, whatcha say. Mmm that you only meant well?’不停地重複唱著，成為了最無法讓人從腦中趕走的一段旋律。接著，他又以有著搖滾鼓擊與吉他架構的「In My Head」繼續成為排行榜的寵兒，攻佔數位單曲榜#10、熱門單曲榜#28，兩者名次都還在爬升當中。今年只有20歲的Jason Derulo，與一般印象中的黑人嘻哈外表相差甚遠，他精神奕奕、俐落帥氣的外表，給人很陽光很舒服的感覺，加上與生俱來的R&B唱腔，融合時興舞曲旋律，電氣、電子合成器的完美應用，甚至流行搖滾的節拍也是Derulo的創作利器，折衷的創作才華、多種曲風的接觸吸收，Jason Derulo絕對是2010年西洋樂壇不容忽視的流行音樂新人王！
