「電力站樂團Kraftwerk」的前身為1968年由Florian Schneider和Ralf Huetter兩人主導的實驗組合Organisation，1970年加入Wolfgang Fluer和Karl Bartos等人後，Kraftwerk才正式宣告成立，不久後團中兩位成員Klaus Dinger和Michael Rother脫隊組成NEU!，和Kraftwerk成為德國Kraut Rock運動中的兩根重要支柱。

60年代末期、七零年代初期，起源於德國的Kraut Rock運動，試圖在搖滾樂中加入實驗性的聲音，將搖滾樂提升至心靈漫遊的層面，這股風潮造就了Kraftwerk、NEU!、Can、Faust、 Tangerine Dream和Cluster幾個傳奇組合，這些前衛的聲音也正是近期Post Rock發展的藍本。其中Kraftwerk不僅確立了杜塞道夫Düsseldorf做為電音發源地的重要地位，對後來的電音發展更產生直接且關鍵性的影響，直至今日還持續蓬勃著創新變革的風氣。
