Melbourne-born Justine Electra moved to Berlin, where the 70s sounds of her upbringing were built on by electronic adventures with local luminaries Norman Nietzsche and Schneider TM, who collaborated on this debut album. The outcome is what the lady calls “electro blues”. Ultimately it’s more pretty pop whimsy than electro or blues, but both spatter the loll languorously alongside sweet-sounding folk and artificial loops. Her voice is strangely alluring, and strong enough to stand by a single strumming guitar or plonking piano. A promising, if subtle start.
