If you’re a fan of Coldplay and Tori Amos, make sure to check Aussie singer/songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke’s song ‘The Last Day On Earth’. The song has a poignant melody line and fragile vocals, the kind of thing that works wonders for a tear jerking TV drama finale.
In the absence of an official video (it’s coming soon), Sydney artist Jefferton James has created a beautiful animation to the song.
Miller-Heidke's second album, Curiouser, was released in Australia on 18th October 2008. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, USA, with Miller-Heidke working with producer Mickey Petralia, who has also produced albums for Beck and Flight of the Conchords. The album's first single, Can't Shake It, debuted exclusively on Nova radio in Australia on 21st September 2008. Can't Shake It debuted on the Aria Singles Chart, on the first week at number 38, making it Kate Miller-Heidke's first top 40 song.

"The One Thing I Know" is an audacious mash-up of primal percussion, stomp box, '80s Synth squiggles, oddball sound effects and operatic interjections that sticks together into a seamless three minutes of timeless radio pop. It's hard to detect any obvious lapses in potency in Kate's brief but prolific back pages. She cut her stage teeth as an annual high-school troubadour at the Woodford Folk Festival near her hometown of Brisbane: with the significant advantages of operatic training and a love of musical theatre that remains evident in her effervescent wordplay and striking visual sense.
