TOMORROW: FIFA World Cup 2010: Day 9 Match Analysis

.

A Pissed-off Wayne Rooney tells the camera "It's nice to see your home fans booing you!" as he vents out his and the England fans frustration after a dismal 0-0 draw with Algeria.

There were two huge upsets in day 8 of the FIFA World Cup, and finally I'm inundated with exciting yet humuliating things to talk about. Germany thrashed Australia 4-0 last week but were brought back down to earth with a thump after being beaten 1-0 by huge underdogs Serbia. The Germans had a man sent-off AND missed a penalty as well as a host of other chances to draw themselves level. The USA and Slovenia produced some fantastic goals and excitement in a 2-2 draw in Jo'burg, in a game which both needed to win to boost their qualification chances. But England's abysmal 0-0 draw to minnows Algeria, yet more disappoint as shown by Wayne Rooney above, ensured that the earlier result didn't matter much, all to the Britishers embarrasment and disgust.

GERMANY 0-1 SERBIA

Milan Jovanovic tucks away the sole goal of the game as Serbia shocked Germany in a 1-0 win against the odds.

A great game for the neutral, but one with an injust feeling if you have any Deutsch loyalties. Germany owned this game pretty much from start to finish but the Serbs and their stiff defence allied with their deadly counter-attacks made up for their loss to Ghana last week, and ensured that Germany were brought back down from cloud 9 in a game which opened up Group D bigtime. 3 teams now have 3 points each in this group, and a win for Australia tomorrow will mean that all 4 teams will be on level points. This eventual loss for the Germans started on a positive note as they had most of the ball and posession and had their earlier chances. BASTIEN SCHWEINSTEIGER was linking up particularly well with Bayern team mate PHILIP LAHM on the right-flank as the Germans looked most dangerous in the opening stages before the first big talking point. The Spanish referee Mallenco, who was card-happy all day by dishing out 8 Yellows and 1 Red, brought about the Red quite controversially. Germany star-striker MIROSLAV KLOSE was adjudged to have fouled twice for two bookable offences - CLEARLY SHITTY REF DECISIONS - was given a red and will miss next weeks vital game against Ghana. Why can't we go a day without a red card ffs!? Straight away Serbia broke and the impressive and fleet-footed MILOS KRASIC crossed deep into the box for 6ft8 striker Nikola Zigic to head down for Liverpool-bound MILAN JOVANOVIC to tap Serbia into the lead. Game on. Germany's Khedira smashed a bar before half-time but the second-half would disappoint Germans even more. After the luckless LUKAS PODOLSKI had a couple good chances for Germany, they won a penalty after NEMANJA VIDIC who was solid all day, handled blatently in the area and got booked for it. Podolski had the resultant spotkick SAVED and Germany were as desparate as ever now. Serbia even had chances of their own, especially via Jovanovic hitting the post. But it wasn't to be Germany's day this time round, Joachim Lowe's side must beat Ghana as the group is not deadlocked.

SLOVENIA 2-2 U.S.A.

Michael Bradley pokes in USA's equaliser in a thrilling 2-2 draw in Ellis Park Jo'Burg.

The Yankees will feel aggrieved not to have won this pulsating tie after clawing the game back to 2-2, being 2-0 behind at half time and having what seemed a legitamate goal ruled out for a foul in the box. Slovenia managed to hold on depsite the U.S. onslaugght but the 1 point doesn;t do either team the world of good. U.S. came into the game as hot-favourites after holding Group leaders England to a 1-1 draw in Rustenburg last week. Slovenia themselves had a good 1-0 win under the bag against Algeria so they were no underdogs, and it proved after they took the lead in the 12th minute. Good pressure finally got the ball to star midfielder VALTER BIRSA whos thunderbolt strike made it as my goal of the day. The winger, who plays in France for Auxerre took one touch after a pass before rifling the ball past a frozen Howard with his left foot into the far corner of the net. One of the best so far. USA were stunned but didn't do anything immediately and Slovenia were by far superior. ZLATAN LJUBIJANKIC deepened their worries just before half time after a flowing move resulted in a one on one where he couldn't miss. The second half changed the game - the ineffective TORRES was replaced by coach Bradley and immeadiately you could see the tactical changes as only 3 minutes in, LANDON DONOVAN found himself clear on goal and blasted into the roof of the net. Game on. The stadium was buzzing, it was end to end stuff, and Bradley's genius substitutions were paying off. After immense pressure, Coach Bob's son Michael finally toe-poked in an effort to make it 2-2 and teh draw was safe. The win was almost theirs too after MAURICE EDU lashed home only for the Malian referee to rule it out for a foul. USA were furious and Slovenia held on. The destiny of this group will be decided on the final day.

ENGLAND 0-0 ALGERIA

鲁尼狠力拉对手

Rooney failed to do anything in his worst performance in an England shirt, and Capello's worst as manager. All in all, a night to forget for Blighty.

Another game, another point, another huge disappointment for England. This team seems to lack the spark and the edge this time round. On paper a team full of World Class players today proved that they couldn't even beat the minnows of World Football. You have to beat teams like this if you want a chance at glory. England have a long way to go. They now have to concentrate their efforts on Slovenia who today proved to the USA that they're no pushovers. Fabio Capello made the difficult choice of starting DAVID JAMES in goal for England instead of Robert Green who made a costly error last week. He responded with a cool, calm and collected display without any major worries. That was that in terms of the positives for England. Without trying to be blunt, their 1st half was poor and all but effortless, Algeria's goalie and defence basically having their work cut out. It's hard to believe when you see the likes of Rooney, Lampard and Gerrard doing so well and scoring so frequently against tough opposition for their respective clubs. Wtf is going wrong!? Is it Capello's tactics? Maybe the 4-4-2 needs to be changed. Or maybe England need to pull their fingers out of their asses, realise that they're evidently not world class yet and grind out some sort of a positive result from that game against Slovenia on Wednesday. GARETH BARRY played for England today and put in an assured box-to-box performance which outlines why Capello needed him so badly. One of England's better players along with the reliable GLEN JOHNSON of Liverpool. Other than that, maybe the England fans had a right to boo you, Roo. You were shit, as was JAMIE-OLDTWAT-CARRAGHER and Aaron Lennon. Algeria were probably worth their point. England just couldn't muster a clear cut chance in 90 mins, and when they did they cocked up. The likes of MADJID BOUGHERRA stayed solid at the back, the impressive and tricky RYAD BOUDEBOUZ kept the creativity flow on attack and although Algeria didn't do shit themselves, they weren't expected to and atleast they didn't disappoint. NADIR BELHADJ of Portsmouth FC, having played against alot of these players also put in a sound back to front performance. England need something from somewhere, you just don't know what they have left up their sleeve. Capello's starting to disappoint in his 1D style. Shaun Wright-Phillips AND Aaron Lennon aren't good enough - were you right to drop THEO WALCOTT!? he must be quietly laughing to himself now and rightly so. This was the kind of game that he could'a changed. There weren't even notable chances for either team to report in the second half. It was just fruitless running. How shit. Rooney, watch who you're talking to mate. And Happy Birthday Fabio. Fucking Useless.
