“Drums, Sex and Dance” is the triumphant fifth album of the band made up by Patricia De La Fuente and Jaime Cristobal. “Drums, Sex and Dance” sees SOUVENIR evolving from the most Eighties-oriented aspects of “64” to a palette of sounds which are more punchy and contemporary. The guitars are grittier, the analog synth sounds rawer, and the beats trancier and more upbeat. The result is an exciting cocktail of new rave and 00s electro with punk-rock energy, dance music spirit and twangy guitars, topped by that unstoppable vocal hurricane called Patricia, who after two years touring “64” has become nothing short of a frontgirl, an attractive hybrid of YELLE and Brigitte Bardot whose personality and evolution is conveyed in “Drums, Sex And Dance” perfectly. This leads SOUVENIR into a thrilling new territory somewhere near the cheeky vocals of YELLE or CSS (CANSEI DE SER SEXY) combined with guitar riffs and vintage synths in the style of HOT CHIP or LITTLE BOOTS. But such elements are integrated as part of a multi-faceted project, in which you will still hear Duane Eddy-style guitars, Brigitte Bardot sexiness, and a combination of new wave drums and Roland TR-808 beats added with a pinch of ZX Spectrum bleeps (a regression to a childhood obsession for Jaime, as the Speccy was the first musical ‘instrument’ he ever used). Still, the result is 100% SOUVENIR. Do you need any evidence? Just listen to these songs and you will instantly recognize the band. The sound of SOUVENIR has become unmistakable.
