Ever since the shocking story about Korean music legend Seo Taiji and actress Lee Ji Ah’s secret marriage was leaked, information regarding the ex-couple has been flooding the news. Some notable information includes the details of their divorce, lawsuit, and the reaction of those who are familiar with the two, including Lee Ji Ah’s current boyfriend, 鄭雨盛Jung Woo Sung.

The couple apparently already divorced a few years ago back in the US, and the lawsuit that was started in Korea is not a file for divorce, but is purely monetary. The secrecy of the relationship tells us that there is a good chance that the couple wasn’t in fact legally married and could have just been in a common law relationship. Lee sued Seo in January, and they’ve already been in front of a judge twice, on March 14th and April 18th, respectively. The shocking truth came out when a story about the second court date was leaked to the public.

The couple started their marriage back in 1997, but according to Lee’s birth year on her profile, which is 1981, she was only 16 back then; an inside source says that she was actually born in 1977, meaning she was 20 at the time.

Over their 14-year marriage, the pair gave birth to two children, both girls. The custody of children, however, is not a part of the lawsuit.

According to MBC’s report, Seo Taiji claims that they divorced back in 2006, with Lee Ji Ah arguing that they split in 2009, submitting related documents to the court. It is speculated that the two parties are arguing for different dates because one cannot sue for alimony and asset division if more than 3 years have passed since divorce. Lee is claiming that they divorced less than 3 years ago, so she has the right to sue Seo, and Seo saying otherwise. Lee is suing Seo for 500 million Won ($540,000) in alimony and 5 billion Won ($5,400,000) of his assets.

Many of those that are close to the ex-couple are in shock. People from Seo Taiji Company, Seo’s management company, have said that all they knew was Seo frequented other countries, and they had no idea where he went or what he did. His managers didn’t know either, saying that they would have felt paraniod about a leak if they knew of the marriage. Yang Hyun Suk, head of YG Entertainment and an old band member of Seo, also said that he knew nothing of the marriage.

While everyone is in a huge shock over the revelation, the one person who took the biggest hit was probably Jung Woo Sung, famous actor and Lee’s current boyfriend. The pair’s relationship status was made official back in March when Jung revealed the secret at his fan meeting. A representative from Taurus Film, Jung’s management company, said, “We just spoke with him at length about the situation. He was very upset about it, saying how could he have dated her if he knew of all this.” He went on to say, “Jung says he wishes that the story isn’t true, but if it is, then he has no choice but to end the relationship. He apparently tried to reach Lee but wasn’t able to, not being able to hear the details from her at all.

Some netizens are arguing that the timing is a bit fishy; the story of the shocking divorce was released only an hour after news claiming that current Korean president Lee Myung Bak had involvement in stock market manipulation, subsequently drawing the media’s attention away from allegations against the president. This has lead some netizens to think that the government released the news on Seo and Lee in order to protect the president from the Korean public’s interest in the allegations.

Whatever the case may be, stay tuned to allkpop for all the breaking news as the situation progresses.

Korea’s reeling in shock over recent reports of a marriage between Seo Taiji, (39, real name: Jung Hyun Chul) the legendary father of K-Pop, and actress Lee Ji Ah (33, real name: Kim Ji Ah).
The shock was compounded even further after it was revealed that the two are currently in the midst of getting a divorce and are parents of two children.

The couple managed to hide their marriage from the world for 14 years, and it has really caught everyone by surprise because of the duration. Lee Ji Ah had always kept her personal information strictly separate from her celebrity profile so that industry representatives and fans couldn’t catch on.

Lee Ji Ah only became an actress in 2007 after getting the main lead role in “The Legend” and was really a surprise choice especially as the male lead was Bae Yong Joon and it was a blockbuster drama.

Lee Ji Ah’s recent public relationship with “Athena“ co-star Jung Woo Sung was been speculated to be the reason behind their sudden divorce. The industry eventually caught on when reports began circulating of the couple’s second court appearance on April 18th.

Although Lee Ji Ah asked for a divorce by mutual agreement, the actress was eventually forced to take it to the courts once Seo Taiji refused to meet her with a compromise. Currently, each party has four lawyers working for them, which is said to be an exceptional case for a family court lawsuit.

Representatives of Jung Woo Sung announced, “We have checked the reports regarding Seo Taiji and Lee Ji Ah, but we know nothing of it.”

Lee Ji Ah’s agency, KeyEast, has reported, “Not only did we have no idea about the lawsuit, but we had no idea of Lee Ji Ah’s marriage to Seo Taiji. We are currently unable to reach contact with her.”

With Lee Ji Ah and Seo Taiji’s shocking story of marriage, divorce, and secrets, Lee Ji Ah’s entertainment company, KeyEast released an official statement on this issue.

On April 21st, KeyEast stated,

We would like to release an official statement on the issues surrounding Lee Ji Ah.

First off, we would like to deeply apologize to all of Lee Ji Ah’s fans for surprising them and making them worried with this news.

Currently, Lee Ji Ah and Seo Taiji are in a lawsuit over alimony and asset division.

From the time of their divorce, Lee Ji Ah wanted to end the relationship smoothly but due to disagreements they weren’t able to do that. Due to disagreements with asset division, it was quite difficult to discuss and settle it privately. So, on January 19th, a lawsuit was raised.

However, even after the lawsuit, both parties couldn’t come to an agreement and the the problems just became worse. They never imagined that their situation would become as big as it is now, currently both sides are very flustered and are working hard to fix the problem.

In 1993, Lee Ji Ah left for America to further her education. During the same year, Lee Ji Ah first met Seo Taiji through a mutual friend at a Los Angeles Korean festival.

Afterwards, Lee Ji Ah stayed in America while Seo Taiji went back to Korea to continue his career. During this time, they both kept in contact with each other through letters and phone calls, cultivating their relationship.

Later, Seo Taiji temporarily retired from the entertainment industry in 1996 (break up of Seo Taiji and the Boys) and moved to America. As Lee Ji Ah helped Seo Taiji adjust to life in America, their relationship blossomed and they became even closer. They truly loved each other and in 1997, they decided to get married. After their marriage, they lived in both Atlanta and Arizona while enjoying their married life.

In June 2000, Seo Taiji went back to Korea to make a musical comeback whereas Lee Ji Ah stayed in America alone. Lee Ji Ah filed for a divorce in 2006 and in 2009, the divorce was finalized. The reason for divorce was due to their occupations and everyday lifestyle that was quite different from a commoner (non-celebrity) and also due to differences in personality.

In 2004, Lee Ji Ah went back to Korea for a brief visit and had the opportunity to film for a cell phone advertisement. While on the filming set, she met the current KeyEast CEO, Yang Geun Hwan, and became interested in becoming a celebrity. In 2005, Lee Ji Ah moved back to Korea permanently and after overcoming the fierce auditions for “The Legend”, Lee Ji Ah was awarded the role as the main female character, making her debut into the entertainment world. In 2007, Lee Ji Ah officially joined the KeyEast roster.

Because Seo Taiji was a famous figure, Lee Ji Ah had no choice but to hide her personal history during her debut. We’re very apologetic over the fact that we couldn’t reveal the truth to everyone beforehand. Lee Ji Ah herself has had quite a difficult time because of this.

Although she was young, both people truly loved each other and wanted to end their relationship smoothly. However, because they were unable to, they’re deeply apologetic towards everyone.

Due  to the fact that she surprised many people with this news and the fact that she could not reveal this truth earlier, Lee Ji Ah is very apologetic towards her close friends, trusted associates, and her beloved fans.

Lastly, we would like to state that they don’t have any children, as some news reports stated. Also, we would like to clearly state that the lawsuit they’re in right now is not a divorce lawsuit.

Lastly, we kindly ask of the media to not report on rumors or facts that have not been confirmed.

This is getting juicy! We can’t wait to hear what Jung Woo Sung has to say about all this. Stay tuned to allkpop for more details on this breaking story.
