AKB48 ships over one million copies of their new single

If the meteoric success of their last single “Beginner” got your jaw dropping, be prepared for their latest success on the Japanese music scene. Yesterday, we reported that mega group AKB48 sold over 655,000 copies on the first day of release with their newest effort, “Sakura no Ki ni Narou“. On the second day after release, all the buzz around the single was heightened with news that the single has already shipped over one million copies.
The group has already managed to top their first million seller “Beginner” – “Sakura no Ki ni Narou” by managing to ship an astonishing 1,100,000 copies – slightly more than “Beginner”s 1,030,000 copies.
The group, who dominated last year’s charts with four smash hit singles, looks like they’re well on track to do the same this year as well.

AKB48 announces the DVD release date for their drama

We previously reported that AKB48’s next drama “Sakura kara no Tegami ~AKB48 Sorezore no Sotsugyou Monogatari~” will begin airing February 26th at 9pm on NTV. This same drama will be released on DVD on March 30th.
The main AKB48 cast will be Oshima Yuko, Maeda Atsuko, Itano Tomomi, Takahashi Minami, Kojima Haruna and Kashiwagi Yuki.
There will be 3 DVD-BOX sets (VOL. 1~3) and all of them will include 60 minutes of bonus footage. In addition to that, there will be a First Press Limited Edition Deluxe BOX-set, that includes all of the volumes as well as two special discs and a micro SD card.
