Hardly your typical live performance DVD, Look at What the Light Did Now (December 7, Interscope) is more of a documentary on the collaborative creative process. Canadian alt/pop singer/songwriter Leslie Feist is the focus of Anthony Seck's fascinating film, a modern day multi-talent who would seem to have reached a special place that most artists can only dream of: commercial success, thanks to her breakout '07 album The Reminder (and hit song, video and iPod theme "1-2-3-4"), steadfast critical acclaim and intensely loyal indie-cred fan base. Look at What the Light Did Now tracks the creative arc of The Reminder with in-studio footage, interviews and live performances presented often in a surreal style of flashing imagery. It is, says one critic accurately, "more poetry than prose."

The DVD contains the full-length documentary along with six music videos, songs from a performance at The Cameron House in Toronto and five live performances recorded during The Reminder world tour. The companion CD includes two versions of the title track -- one solo, one with the song's writer Kyle "Little Wings" Field -- plus additional live performances and four Feist tracks interpreted on solo piano by Chilly Gonzalez from the film score. All told, Look at What the Light Did Now is a feast for Feist fans but it also works as an impressionistic and artful take on what it means (and requires) to be a musical artist of integrity, vision and spirit. Feist has said that she wants "to make visible what is audible" and with her and Seck's illuminating Light she's certainly close to achieving that goal. EPK after the jump.
