Funstyle is the sixth album by Liz Phair, independently released on her official website on July 3, 2010 (see 2010 in music) by Phair herself. A CD version of the album will be released on October 19, 2010 via Rocket Science Records. It will also include a bonus disc containing ten songs from her famed Girly Sound tapes.
After leaving the roster of Capitol Records in 2008, Liz Phair began working on a number of offbeat, highly unconventional songs, many of which dealt with her frustration with the ailing record industry. Rather than partner with a new label, she took matters into her own hands by uploading the songs to her website, where they were packaged together and released under the album title Funstyle. Full of unexpected moments, the album finds Liz Phair in a loose, quirky mood while continuing to thumb her nose at naysayers.
