After almost thirty minutes of extra time in what was more of a display of soccer fundamentals than championship theatrics, Spain emerged the victor over the Netherlands with a score of 1 - 0. It was in the 116th minute that Spain's Iniesta put a corner kick past Netherlands' Stekelenburg to bring home Spain's historical first FIFA World Cup win.
But now we bid adieu to the beautiful hosting country of South Africa and prepare for the next round of rousing matches in Brazil in 2014. Until then, Spain can revel in their grand title of World Champions. Congratulations to all the teams that made it as far as they did and just remember that for one month, this world came together and put aside its differences for the love of the game.
