TOMORROW: FIFA World Cup 2010: Day 14 Match Analysis.

Capello's boys have done it! He celebrates in style with his team as they see off Slovenia 1-0 which saw them go through 2nd in the Group!

By far the most exciting day of FIFA World Cup 2010 football yet. 8 teams, 4 matches - every single one of 'em, had the chance to get through. In the end, there were only 4 qualifying places in the last 16 to go for. The earlier kick-offs dealt with Group C (the one with England & USA!). England had to win to go through, without any excuses. Anything less would've almost certainly meant elimination. They had to play top-of-the-Group Slovenia! (wtf!) who only needed a point for the last 16. England ended up winning 1-0, which sent them through and Slovenia out - which was ONLY because the USA's must win game against Algeria just about, in THE NICK of time, ended in a 1-0 win for them also! Landon's the man for all you American's now right!? Group D witnessed the awesome Boateng v Boateng clash in Ghana v Germany. The German's, similar to England were in a must-win position, while Ghana needed only a point. It ended up 1-0 to the European's thanks to a super-striker, which you shall see soonish! Australia and Serbia were outsiders to qualify and so it proved - the 2-1 win for the Aussies meaning very little in the end. Joy and mo'fo relief, huh!? (Disclaimer of Impartiality for all of those who didn't go through, my bad!)

GROUP C-
SLOVENIA 0-1 ENGLAND (SLOVENIA ELIMINATED, ENGLAND FINISH 2ND!)
世界盃C組第三輪,英格蘭憑藉狄福的進球1-0戰勝斯洛文尼亞。但由於美國戰勝阿爾及利亞,英格蘭只能以小組第二身份進入16強,1/8決賽將對陣德國。

Jermain Defoe celebrates his solitary strike which puts England through from the 2nd spot, to eventually face Germany on Sunday! Clash of the Titans!

The pressure was on for England and it was telling as they walked out onto the pitch today. They just had to get 3 points, nothing else was going to be good enough. The early anxiousness was in their play and when the Slovenians were running at their back line, you were wondering if it was going to be their day or not. Lennon and Heskey were dropped today, Capello favoured the speed and agility of Defoe and the cross accuracy of JAMES MILNER which made a huge difference. The dropped names, in my opinion, were huge reasons as to why England were doing so poorly to begin with. FRANK LAMPARD had a couple of quick testing shots at Slovenian goalie SAMIR HANDANOVIC who put in a world class performance today. He should be playing for Europe's big boys. Captain STEVEN GERRARD looked ready for his shift - he was runnin' the show like a mad dog and was making runs and providing passes that no one else could see but him, a real captain's display. After the Lions finally grabbed hold of the game, only their 2nd or 3rd truthful attempt on goal resulted in one on 23 mins. Milner's amazing accuracy found the pace and speed of JERMAIN DEFOE whos stabbed shot was just to quick for Handanovic to handle, who deflected the ball into his net with a huge hand. A MAHOOSIVE sigh of relief for all in red & white. Now they were gettin there and doing things! To win the Group, they needed thsi result to stay this way and make sure that USA-Algeria stayed a draw. What a difference a goal makes, and what a difference and few tactics make Mr.Capello!
England were buzzing now. Lampard had another powerful drive that went just over, and shortly afterwards the lead should've been doubled after first, Defoe was denied, then Gerrard went to place a shot that Handanovic brilliantly kept out again. They were finally dominant. VALTER BIRSA was easilt Slovenia's best player and had a couple'a pot shots that did nothing. The second-half was an owning masterclass by England though. Chances galore at goal and a solid defence when needed is exactly the way that Champions do it. Surely! Defoe tapped just wait just a minute in, but the out-of-form WAYNE ROONEY, again absent in the first half, struck a post when he was one on one after scuffing a shot when put through by Lampard. Bloody 'ell! Rooney was taken off for JOE COLE (finally!) after 72 mins - and yep he wasn't happy again! It was the fact that they couldn't put the game to bed that was most annoying. Slovenia even had a few half chances in the last 10 minutes...blocked superbly by Terry and Johnson, that made things nervy. 1-0's never safe, and England will know that against Germany. Slovenia were out after news came through of USA's last gasp goal, but Capello lead his team to a huddle and pure elation. That's how mich it meant, just don't keep making it this hard for yourself boys! Bring on the Germans!

U.S.A. 1-0 ALGERIA (US FINISH 1st PLACE! ALGERIA ELIMINATED!)

Donovan starts the celebrations after that last-gasp winner that won the Group for the USA, on the brink of elimination with just a minute to go!

America fought out a well-deserved win against yet another stubborn Algerian defence to finish to top of Group C, and set up a last 16 clash with D's winners - who was Ghana. Chance after chance went beginning for the Americans, but they scored a 91st minute winner to end up winning the Group as well as some pride over 2nd placed England. It was just meant to happen, right!? LANDON DONOVAN, easily America's best player, was the hero again as Algerian goalie M'Bohli who was a hero all day, had ANOTHER JABULANI MOMENT! (I'll make a top 10 of these after the final!) to leave a lose ball hanging for the LA Galaxy hitman to tap in. This was harsh on Algeria as much as it was deserved for the USA. The USA dominated from the start, but Algeria set up a wholehearted, similar defence to the one against England and it nearly paid off. USA were a minute away from going out, dammit! (just kidding!) Djebbour of Algeria had the first real chance of the game, DeMerit who is so poor in Internationals, missed the ball completely allowing the striker time to smash the bar. Close as! USA took over as the game wore on, first Gomez hit a great shot that was well saved, then yet ANOTHER U.S.A. goal was ruled out, and again, incorrectly. Dempsey tapped in after good work from Donovan on the right-wing, and he appeared to be onside. Sack these twats already please! JOZY ALTIODRE for the 1st time in his footballing career had a good game. He missed a sitter just before half time though, and Algeria looked out of ideas by then. The second half was still all US. Coach Bradley sent on Buddle and Feilhaber for more attack in the second half as any sort of win would do it now for them. CLINT DEMPSEY came closest to an opening, one of the subs helped him through only to see his shot crash against the outside of a post. Was it to be an Algerian day!? Err...Nah. Just as the clock struck 92 mins out of 93, Altidore fed Dempsey who shot, only to be saved and the ball dropeed at the feet of Donovan - BANG. USA into dreamland, through as Champions! Who'd have ever through it!? Ghana next, so I'ma do my usual and predict that they'll lose badly to them!

GROUP D-
GHANA 0-1 GERMANY (BOTH TEAMS QUALIFY! 2nd & 1st)
世界盃D組第三輪,德國隊憑藉厄齊爾的進球1-0擊敗加納,以小組第一身份出線,1/8決賽將對陣英格蘭。同時,落敗的加納憑藉淨勝球擠掉澳大利亞,也打進16強。

Mesut Ozil's drills a left-footed drive into Kingson's top corner to win the match 1-0 to Germany, and set up that mouthwatering clash with England on Sunday. Ghana also went through despite losing.

Germany looked similar to England in terms of their chances, and will now have to play against them in Bloemfontaine on Sunday. Their 1-0 scraped and hardly deserved win against a commited Ghanaian side put them through as Group winners to face their arch rivals, and both sides will fancy their chances after substandard appearances, respectively, today. Ghana only needed a point to go through, they didnt get that but the other result went in their favour, and they will ow play the USA on Saturday. Easy-peasy!! This was the Boateng v Boateng match aswell...but literally nothing came of it. Especially for Jerome. He was played out of position and subbed. Nice one, Man City! MIROSLAV KLOSE missed the game through suspension, so Cacau started and had a poor game again for Germany. His opposite number - ASAMOAH GYAN of Ghana had an even poorer game. Set up 3-4 times by his brilliant team mates, the selfish striker took his time instead of using his head! (literally!) and lost the chance to put the Germans out of sight before they even got going. Ghana started with the upper hand. England will be cursing them for not taking those chances! ANDRE AYEW was terrific again and deserved to be on the winning side with his amazing crosses. A better strike partner would've allowed that, son! Germany eventually got used to the games pace and naturally took over. It wasn't end-to-end anymore, it was Deutsch-Deutsch. Ozil wasted a great one on one chance, and then as they do, the German's got away with murder. Gyan's header was cleared off the line by PHILIPP LAHM'S (awesome all game) arm but nothing was given. The second half started as the 1st ended, great tempo. Germany had to - Serbia could still knock them out. A draw would win the Group for Ghana so obviously they tried sitting back. This was their undoing. MESUT OZIL finally lived up to his name-tag with a moment of pure-class, unleashing and curling a left-footed cracker into the top corner. No chance this time Kingson. Superb finish, my 'Goal of the Day!'. Germany played out the game, 1-0 was enough and Serbia were now losing 2-1 to Aussies. Ghana could've got back into it but immaturity let them down. It's as if Germany wanted to play England! (twats!) Ghana will be pleased with the USA tie, they beat them in 2006 World Cup. Go'on Black Stars!

AUSTRALIA 2-1 SERBIA (BOTH ELIMINATED!)

Cahill celebrates taking the lead with Australia, but it wouldn't matter in the end due to other results, even though his team beat Serbia 2-1. Both are now out.

The Aussies put in an awesome second half performance, but it wasn't enough for them to go through, and they lost out to Ghana on goal difference only after that poor start. Both these teams were the more unlikely choices to go through and the game was at times played with a slow pace. They still had mathematical chances before kick off though, so never gave up. Serbia shaded the first half, and with no goals MILAN KRASIC was the most dangerous player on the pitch, always looking menacing and taking a few shots as well as looking for a few assists. MARK SCHWARZER who will complete a move to Arsenal FC now that his World Cup is over, didn't want to leave that quick. He matched Krasic as Aussie's best player. He denied both Krasic and BRANISLAV IVANOVIC, brilliant again, with awesome one handed saves. He even recovered well when Krasic went round him and didn't let him score. Aussies did nothing in this half. Their time was to come in the second half. After end to end stuff for a while when Serbia kept missing, star man TIM CAHILL headed in a right-wing cross and the Aussies lead 1-0. Just 4 mins later, it was 2-0. BRETT HOLMAN, hated by many Aussies, slammed in an awesome long range strike. Serbia were now all but dead and gone and only had themselves and poor finishing to blame. They could've easily got the required result/goal difference tonight to knock out Ghana from spot 2. Better luck next time boys..!? They almost did fight back. In the 84th minute, PANTELIC pulled one back after a tap in. Man-of-the-Match Schwarzer had a Jabulani moment this time. Serbia had penalties claims waved away and in the dying moments had a goal ruled out for offside. That would've been the killer blow. But you need special lady-luck Africa style. As USA saw, they scored in the 91st min when all seemed doomed, and the Serbs in quite the opposite way missed out. Who'd be a footballer!? Thanks for the entertainment anyways, you two!
