France coach Raymond Domenech refuses to shake the hand of Bafana's opposite number Carlos Alberto Parreira to make exiting even more sour for the French
Damn, so the final Group Stage games began today, and I have to cover 4 matches instead of 3. But since the epicness begins for real from here onwards, that's not a problem! This is a time in the competition where you have no choice but to play your heart out, unless your fate's already been decided and you're just playing for pride. That wasn't the case for any of today's 8 teams that were on show, and twists and turns just kept on coming in a day that produced 11 goals, and as common as goals these days, 1 Red card. The Bafana-Bafana had their last chance to survive today but unfortunately became the 1st host nation to be knocked out in the Group Stages. Despite this, they ground out a hard-fought victory against the flopping-French, wo also went out, by beating them 2-1. Atleast England don't have it THAT bad! The other match in the Group ended in a 1-0 victory for Uruguay against Mexico, which allowed both teams to progress to the last 16.
Group B's finalists had it a bit more complicated than this. Any of the 4 had almost equal opportunities to go through, and the bottom team at the start of the day were at one point looking as if they were going to go through. With qualification all but secured for Argentina it took them a good 78 minutes to break down a resiliant Greece team, who themselves had a good chance of going through, before eventually beating them 2-0. This result meant that South Korea needed only a point against Nigeria to qualify due mostly to superior goal difference. They did this by drawing 2-2 with the Super Eagles, which sent them flying home early. That's 3 African nations out now. Europeans and South Americans have yet again proved to them that they have a long way to go before they catch the big boys! But - no one will ever forget BAFANA-BAFANA!
GROUP A-
Poor France. Literally - they were shit. Merde! Anyone, both them, and scorer M'phela's Bafana's are out now. No surprises.
Suarez buries a header past Oscar Perez for Uruguay as they beat off Mexico 1-0 to ensure a top place finish in Group A. Both teams have progressed.乌拉圭苏亚雷斯头球破门乌拉圭1比0领先。
LUIS SUAREZ, the prolific striker, finally got off the mark in this World Cup by scoring the only goal in this drab game, where both teams ended up qualifying. The only difference was that Uruguay finishing 1st meant that they avoid playing Group B winners Argentina next, that'll be Mexico's task. Uruguay have it slightly easier by having to face the almight South Korea! Suarez scored just before half-time, burying a header at the far post past Perez after neat team-work from EDISON CAVANI on the right-wing. Mexico, with CARLOS VELA had a few chances of their own, but couldn't take them and in the end looked content with facing Maradonna's boys! Well good luck guys...you'll need it! Uruguay had the better of this game, even though PAREIRA was shit again. Mexico had the first real chance, ANDRES GUARDADO smashing a rasping effort against the crossbar. Blanco had a few chances too as well as dos Santos, and even though Mexico held the ball looking for an equaliser for a littel while, Uruguay always looked more confident and dominant. Forlan's efforts should've doubled their lead, you'll take a 1-0 and top spot. Good luck boys!
GROUP B-
Palermo celebrates making it 2-0 to Argentina to top Group B and play Mexico next!
Finally, I predicted a final score correctly! Argentina were dominant throughout, and with qualification already pretty much guaranteed, Maradonna named a much changed side to face Greece, who still fancied their chances. LIONEL MESSI was made captain, Veron, Aguero, Otamendi, Milito, Bolatti and Burdisso all started for the first time in the competition so far. With Greece a known defensive team, Argentina were attackinly dominant through out. JUAN VERON who had an outstanding game had teh first real effort in anger, a superb 30-yard piledriver that forced Tzorvas in goal to tip over. The few times that Greece had the ball, they couldn't get behind a solid Argie defence, and with lone-man GEORGIOS SAMARAS upfront alone, and poor, their chances were lowered. Veron and Messi were the star men, Milito and Aguero were surprisingly quiet. SOITIRIOS PAPASTASTAPOULOS was given the job of man-marking Messi was was terrific at it, keeping the key man quiet for most of the game. The only bright spark for Greece. It took the Argies 77 minutes to break the door down, but they did. MARTIN DEMICHELIS acrobatically almost, volley in a cross into the top corner. They'd been brilliant against neagtive tactics and deserved it. It was soon 2 - but after Messi it the post with a sublime solo effort. He then had another shot, this time it was palmed out to the forgetten man of Argentina...36 y'o MARTIN PALERMO to crash in the rebound and send all Aregntinians into jubilation. Great scence for South Americans again - simply awesome. Greece..just go home, and produce a striker if you ever get yourself outta this economic shit! Mexico in the next round Argies - a sure fire win right!?
MISS OF THE CENTURY!..Yakubu rolls wide from that position against S.K. in a 2-2 draw today. Had he scored it, it would've been his Nigeria and not S.K. in the last 16! Disgraceeee!
Nigeria could seriously have won this and will wonder why they're not in the last 16 at the moment. Chances galore, crappy defending and a whole lotta amatuer mistakes later, and they're flying home early. They took a 1-0 lead through KALU UCHE in the 12th minute who tapped in, before just moments later having a great chance to make it 2-0 - he smashed a post with a great effort. LEE JUNG-SOO capitalised on Nigeria's failures in the 38th minute after a scrappy goal allowed him to head against his own foot after a free-kick and rol it in. Durban was rocking! Early in the 2nd half, S.K. made it 2-1, just 4 mins in! PARK CHU-YOUNG curled in a hopeful freekick which deceived the Nigerian defence and Enyeama in goal to bounce straight in. The Super Eagles have had such shitty luck in the tournament. It was about to get worse - great work on the left wing by Martins left YAKUBU with a tap in which he incredibly put wide. Make no mistake about it..it was shockingly, sickeningly unbelievable!. He scored with a penalty just 2 minutes later however to make it 2-2. But himself, and OBAFEMI MARTINS had immense chances to bury away a surprisinglu lapse S.K. side. They didn't they were in tears in the end, S.K. celebrated like they won the thing - the 1st time they're through to the last 16 outside of their own home! Mental! South Korea will now face, and probably lose to Uruguay in the last 16...deservedly so on this performance.

GROUP A-
FRANCE 1-2 SOUTH AFRICA (BOTH TEAMS ELIMINATED)
Both these teams had to win to stand any sort of a chance of going through, but due to the superiority of Mexico and Uruguay, their destiny was out of their own hands. France had off the field problems and that was evident straight away due to their sloppy play, espcially upfront with a poor ANDRE-PIERRE GIGNAC and at the back with SQUILACCI proving a liability. Alou Diarra was made captain due to all the problems, Anelka was sent home, Evra lost his captaincy, there were a whole host of changes for France. None were good enough to prevent defeat. Bafana defender KHUMANO headed them into the lead after Lloris and Diaby both misjudged a corner. Only minutes later was the turning point - YOAN GOURCUFF was victim to shitty refereeing yet again as he was sent-off for a high elbow...yeh - wtf!? One of three negativities in this tourney is shit refereeing (Vuvuzela's and the Jabulani being the others). This game was now lost by France, they were finished. More poor defending by Gael Clichy allowed in M'PHELA to tap in - SA actually looking as if they were going through at this point. The second-half was cagey, and although FLORENT MALOUDA pulled a goal back as France's only one this time round - great work by Diaby and Ribery - it wasn't enough to save France and their turmoil, or the Bafana. End'a the day in footballing terms...neither of these tow deserved to go through. Uruguay and Mexico definitely played the better football which is what we should judge by, and quite rightly they're 2 of the best 16 teams in the world. France..you need a major revamp man. It's already under way. The hapless Domenech was chopped before this mess started. How the hell did he stick around for that long!? Twat. Poor France. Literally - they were shit. Merde! Anyone, both them, and scorer M'phela's Bafana's are out now. No surprises.
