TOMORROW: FIFA World Cup 2010: Day 10 Match Analysis.

Yes I Can! Denmark & 阿森纳前锋本特纳Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner proved he can do it on the big stage today with a scintillating performance that saw Denmark stay alive and knock Cameroon OUT of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Ahh what a day of football! You would usually get a bore in atleast one of the three matches, but not today! All of the games provided class, players of the highest calibre, fantastic goals and pure entertainment as the 2010 FIFA World Cup knockout qualification race hots up. Netherlands kicked us off early in the day and came up with a gutsy and grafting performance that saw them qualify from their group with a 1-0 win. 10-man Australia held the confident Ghanaians to a 1-1 draw despite playing over an hour with a man less, and, in probably the classiest game of the competition so far, Denmark proved their class with some fine individual performances to see them overturn a 1-0 deficit and beat Cameroon 2-1, which knocked them out of the tournament, the first African nation this time to do so. Finally, this competition is turning out to be awesome!

NETHERLANDS 1-0 JAPAN

All good things come in 3: Robin van Persie范佩西 and Dirk Kuyt库伊特 help Wesley Sneijder to celebrate his and Holland's only goal of the game to see them safely through to the knockouts!

The Dutch usually turn on the style for the big competitions like this, but they're yet to do so this time round and proved that today in a gutsy and grafting performance which saw them edge out the stiff-looking Japanese 1-0. Cameroon's defeat at the hands of Denmark later on in the day means that the Netherlands are the first team to qualify to the knockout stage so far. This game started off quietly with the Japanese sitting back, expecting a Dutch attacking onslaught, looking a bit out of sort in the opening stages. Star-man, and Arsenal striker ROBIN van PERSIE still managed to look menacing throughout making some darting runs and putting in some telling crosses with that left foot of his, enough to rough up the plucky-looking Jap defence. The Japanese defence eventually grew in confidence and took-over by the end of the 1st half, to the frustration of the Dutch. Their strength was to be short lived. The Netherlands came out in the second half looking like a much better team, van Persie and also DIRK KUYT pulling all the strings again. Just 7 minutes in, the Arsenal striker found Inter Milan's WESLEY SNIEJDER in the box after a mellee, and he struck a right footed effort powerfully towards goal, only to see goalie EIJI KAWASHIMA have a so-called 'Jabulani Moment' and save it, while inadvertantly palming it into his opposite corner afterwards. Soft goal to concede, but one that was definitely deserved. Chances were few and far between afterwards, with the goalscorer and Man-of-the-Match looking most dangerous. DAISUKE MATSUI'S creativity for Japan wasn't doing anything for his team. Dutch substitues ELJARO ELIA & IBRAHIM AFFELAY combined well in the dying moments and they had a shot blocked, while Japan also could've snuck one in in the dying moments, but it was always looking to be an 'Oranje' day! It's looking bright for the Dutch, don't rule them out going far, they're only gonna improve with time!

GHANA 1-1 AUSTRALIA

Harry Kewell fights for his innocence in his teams 1-1 draw with Ghana in which he was sent off for handling the ball and giving away a penalty.

Australia held Ghana to a 1-1 draw despite playing for over an hour with only 10 man, after HARRY KEWELL was sent off for a delibarate handball in the area, denying a clear goal scoring opportunity. Before this incident, Australia had been dominating a below-par Ghana, who were looking more than cocky from kick-off after their surprise victory over Serbia last week. The sending off changed the game but the Socceroos held on for a well-earned point, which means that they're not out of it yet in terms of qualification hopes for the knockouts. The Aussies had been slated back at home for their 4-0 hammering against Germany last week, but showed up with a courageous performance that could've been so much better for them. The Ghanains on the other hand, showed individualistic performances but no maturity at all. Both of their goals thusfar have come from the penalty spot in somewhat fortunate circumstances.
Ghana's start to the match was alot worse than their fortune suggests. In only the 11th minute, Mark Bresciano's free-kick for Australia should've been routine for calamity goalie Richard Kingson, a man who's played more for his country than a club in the last 4 years, but bring on ANOTHER JABULANI MOMENT! the second of the day! He parried the Aussie free-kick when it seemed oh-so-simple, misjudging the bounce and tapping it straight to BRETT HOLMAN to tap in to the top-corner. Bring on Aussie celebrations. Kingson...you IDIOT! He can't be blamed more than Green, Kawashima or the Algerian goalie, however. Maybe it is the ball....nah! Ghana responded by attacking on the flanks in numbers and throwing all bodies forward, and just moments later it was to pay dividends. In the 25th minute, ANDRE AYEW, son of Ghana legend Abedi Pele..AMAZING all day, crossed back in the box for Jonathan Mensah who smashed a shot against Kewell's arm. You guessed the rest - red card, Kewell denying it vehementally even though it was evident (he told the ref to check the big screen!), ASAMOAH GYAN stepped up and scored - BIG BIG celebrations and a dance-off by the corner flag. Who else hates stalemates!? Arsenal-bound MARK SCHWARZER pulled off some fine saves after this, in the 1st half from Boateng, and after that died out, in the second half from sub Quincy. I didn't mean to skip halves, its just that nothing else went on apart from boring football from Ghana, resolving to long-range shots which were more of a threat to the vuvuzela blowers. Luke Wilkshere did have a one on one chance with Kingson who redeemed himself with a smart stop. The Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg has hosted 3 games now. All of them have ended in 1-1 draws. Piece'a shit stadium. Build some more stands and a better net you twats!!
This group now stays wide-open, no one's out or through yet. Ghana only need a point off of Germany to qualify (fat chance!) and Australia will get through if they beat Serbia (even fatter chance!) It promises to be awesome either way!

CAMEROON 1-2 DENMARK (CAMEROON ELIMINATED淘汰)

Dennis Rommedahl celebrates his 高超superb goal to put Denmark 2-1 up against Cameroon, which basically sealed both teams' fate.

What. A. Game! Breath-taking stuff from Pretoria today as Denmark came from a goal down to stuff Cameroon and send them packing - the first team so far to be knocked out. While doing so, the Danish kept themselves in contention for a last 16 place which they will probably end up getting now. This result seemed unlikely if you look at it from the first 10 minutes, the 'Indomitable Lions' (Cameroon!) were taking the piss out of Denmark in the opening stages. Their early pressure told, as SAMUEL ETO'O finally got himself and Cameroon off the mark in this competition after a mix up in the Danish defence. CHRISTIAN POULSEN, WHO IS PROBABLY AS BAD AS I AM IN CENTRAL DEFENCE single-handedly had the worst performance in this competiton as a whole so far. Not only did he look lazy and unbothered, but for Cameroon's goal, he gave the ball away straight to Pierre Webo as if he just didn't care. The winger simply rolled the ball to Eto'o to blast the ball past Thomas Sorensen in goal. Flamin' idiot! His eveing wouldn't get any better. While Cameroon were dominant, he was being out-paced, overpowered and simply outclassed all over the field. A shameful performance. He should kiss the boots of the players involved who tied the game, which was its turning point. Denmark finally calmed themselves down, brushed up and SIMON KJAER who I mentioned in my preview, was instrumental and had an absolutely outstanding game. In fact, he was as good as Poulsen was poor. Kjaer's awesome 61 metre cross-field ball caught out Benoit Assou-Ekotto of Cameroon and found Rommedahl. The faultless, towering figure of NICKLAS BENDTNER had made an amazing run into the box, outwhiting 2 Cam' defenders and he was there to slot in a fantastic goal. That was it for Cameroon, the game was now entirely Denmarks, apart from a few random hits here and there - Eto'o hit a post in what seemed like end to end stuff. The second half started as the first ended - Danish Delight! Kjaer smashed an amazing half-volley just inches over, and Denmark dominated the 'Indomitable Lions', as well as their own share of posession! The second goal was largely created by Man-of-the-Match Bendtner again. His brilliant little dinked ball past an abysmal Cam' defence found DENNIS ROMMEDAHL whos effort made my 'Goal of the day'. He picked up the ball, ghosted past his marker and unleashed a sizzling left-footed curler into the bottom corner. Class. And well deserved. Cams' had a couple'a shots here and there on goal again, ACHILLE EMANA & ALEXANDER SONG had noteable efforts, and the pair of them were the only good thing left for their team. But the Danish defence of Kjaer and Daniel Agger stood strong and resisted the few bits 'n bobs that were thrown at them, while again, Bendtner was always their to worry the opposite defence. Kjaer even picked up a yellow card for a foul and will miss the crucial game against Japan next week but himself and Bendtner had the games of their lives. It ended as a Victorious Day for the Vikings! They're nearly there, they showed pure class today. Paul le Guen and his flattened team are the first nation to be eliminated and the poor sods cried their way out. Pointless and potless, lets hope they still have the last 'P'...Pride, next week against - Netherlands!
