中華電信5月推Soft Plaza中文行動下載

蘋果App Store創造40億次的下載,也是全球最賺錢的行動下載商店,中華電信看好中文化的行動下載市場,將在下個月推出「Soft Plaza」行動商店,不僅對中華電信用戶開放,其他系統手機用戶也可付費下載。

中華電信「Soft Plaza」行動商店初期將先以Android智慧型手機為主,主要是目前iPhone在App Store幾乎什麼軟體都有,目前已超過18萬個應用程式,微軟的Windows Mobile 7還未上市,反而是新機漸多的Andriod缺乏中文的運用軟體。

中華電信行動通信分公司協理陳長榮表示,Android雖然已有Android Market 等管道取得免費或付費軟體,卻是缺少適合本地用戶使用的軟體,「Soft Plaza」就是為了提供這樣的管道,同時並開放給非中華電信用戶也能使用。

遠傳在去年推出的「S市集」最近也開始深耕Andriod應用程式開發,遠傳認為,Android Market以全球市場為目標,與開發者合作推出免費或付費應用程式,但台灣市場遲遲未開放付費軟體上架,使得Android Market在企業應用上的程式並不多。

EMI and Guy Hands will reportedly ask weary Terra Firm investors for three times what it initially sought to help EMI from defaulting on its loan obligations, unnamed sources told Bloomberg News.

$551 million is now believed to be needed before mid-June to help EMI meet its debt obligations to lender CitGroup thru 2015. The new figure appears to reflect the growing reality that no major label group is stepping up to offer a hoped for cash infusion in exchange for a license of EMI's extensive catalog



Hands Said to Seek 360 Million Pounds for EMI Debt Covenants

April 20 (Bloomberg) -- Guy Hands’s Terra Firma Capital Partners Ltd. may ask clients for triple the amount it initially sought to help EMI Group Ltd. meet its debt obligations until 2015, according to a person briefed on the plan.

Terra Firma plans to raise 360 million pounds ($551 million) by the middle of June, which would allow the company to comply with its covenants over the next five years, said the person, who declined to be identified because the information is private. The record label of Coldplay, Queen and Pink Floyd had previously considered seeking 120 million pounds, enough to meet obligations until 2011.

Terra Firma, based in London, financed the 2007 buyout with 2.5 billion pounds of debt. Hands was negotiating with EMI’s lender, Citigroup Inc., to reduce the company’s debt by about 40 percent in return for a 1 billion-pound cash injection. The bank spurned the offer because it would have been forced to write off some of the debt as EMI’s profit rises, said another person familiar with the talks.

As part of the planned capital raising, Terra Firma may consider the sale of its Japan unit, EMI Music Japan, according to the person. EMI bought Toshiba Corp.’s 45 percent stake in their Japanese music venture Toshiba-EMI Ltd. for about 21 billion yen ($230 million) in cash, before being taken over by Terra Firma. Toshiba-EMI was later renamed EMI Music Japan.

The private-equity firm has written down about 90 percent of its 1.5 billion-pound investment in the music company, which accounts for about a third of its fund, a person close to the matter said previously. EMI said yesterday it is preparing a long-term business plan to secure additional funds and the project will be completed by mid-June.

Terra Firma’s management will contribute about 36 million pounds, or 10 percent, of the total it’s seeking from investors, the person said. The firm will look to existing clients before expanding an offering to third-party investors.

Andrew Dowler, a spokesman for Terra Firma, declined to comment.

New Plan Would Hit U.S. Operations Hardest

Hundreds more jobs could be cut soon as top EMI executives prepare a plan to save the struggling company. EMI owners Terra Firma must get the votes of 75% of its investors - who have already lost most of their initial £1.8 billion investment - to inject £120M ($183M USD) in additional funds by June 14th or risk loosing control of the company to lender CitiGroup.

New CEO Charles Allen is expected to tell investors this week that profits at EMI Music could reach £300M by 2015 vs £200M in the last 12 months, according to The Times. But to achieve that, EMI must cut hundreds more jobs as well as find a way to lease EMI’s U.S. music catalog to a rival label group for the next 5 years. The plan would cut another £100m from EMI Music’s £500M operating budget and lead to the shut down of most of its U.S. operations. EMI has already cut 2000 jobs worldwide.


Lala移除其特色服務Music Mover的上傳功能

已經被蘋果收歸旗下的線上音樂服務提供者Lala.com,一直未見傳聞會被蘋果用來發佈自己的雲音樂服務,雖然Lala被收購後就一直是獨立運營,但顯然已經開始受到蘋果一些政策的影響了。它已經移除掉自己非常特色的Music Mover中的上傳功能。Music Mover類似於很多年前的MP3.COM,允許使用者掃描本地購買的音樂,與lala的音樂庫進行匹配。如果能關聯(或者不能關聯 則可上傳到lala的伺服器),則用戶可以在lala上無限收聽這些音樂,否則只能有第一次全曲收聽的機會。

使用者都知道Music MOver並不能識別使用者購買的音樂是否是通過線上音樂商店合法購買的,而普通網上盜版下載的曲目也會被成功掃描,所以說這在一定程度上侵犯了蘋果一直堅持的正版音樂政策,也難免會牽連蘋果自己。而且即使蘋果能夠讓lala做出如此大的讓步,想必蘋果自己的線上音樂服務已經在路上?讓我們拭目以待。

如下圖,(早知如此,就應該在之前將自己本地所有音樂全掃描上去,可惜。看來線上免費全曲點播還將是禁區)。

SELECTION - According eMarketer in January of this year, iTunes had roughly 11 million tracks, Amazon sold 10 million and Lala offered 8 million. Rhapsody, eMusic, and the Zune Marketplace each had 6 million tracks to choose from. (via ZDNet)

  附注:LIVE產業

數字音樂:面對盜版現實 從自身尋求突破2010/4/12

  Universal Music Group(環球音樂集團)近日決定採取一種新的方式促進唱片銷售:降低CD的價錢。在過去的五年間,由於實體CD的銷量急劇下滑,作為四大唱片公司之一的環球音樂集團準備降低將單張唱片的定價降,以刺激CD唱片的銷售。但環球音樂集團的這一策略是否來得太遲,能起到效果嗎?

  中投顧問文化行業研究員蔡靈指出,且不論環球音樂集團的降價行為是否能收到相應的效果,在數位音樂大行其道的今天,傳統音像行業面臨的壓力是愈來愈明顯了。在傳統音像業日薄西山的情況下,國內數位音樂似乎也沒有真正走上正途,音樂產品的消費需求越來越大,數位音樂行業和傳統音像業卻同時陷入了尷尬境地。

  在國外,版權環境相對較好,消費者的版權意識也比較強,環球音樂集團的降價行為在一定程度上還能吸引消費者回過頭購買實體CD,但是音樂產品消費者正在變化的消費習慣卻是降價行為難以逆轉的。中投顧問產業研究中心的監測資料顯示,09年全球數位音樂收入規模在整體音樂行業收入中的占比達到了25%,預計2015年這數字將超過50%。蔡靈表示,隨著數位音樂逐漸進入大眾消費時代,聽唱片的消費者甚至會少於收藏者。

  與國外相比,中國國內數位音樂行業面對傳統音像業已經讓出的市場並不得章法。儘管傳統音像業近年來陷入連續衰退的境地,但是仍擁有與數位音樂相當的市場規模。有人認為“數位害了音樂”,這也不無道理:無論是使用數位技術的壓縮光碟,還是在互聯網和移動通信網上傳播的數位化音樂內容,都對傳統音像業造成了嚴重的衝擊。但是,中國國內數位音樂行業的發展也沒有取得令人驚喜的成績,原因又在哪兒?

  蔡靈表示,影響傳統統音像業和數位音樂健康發展的主要因素是盜版。數位音樂非但沒有成就自身,反而為盜版橫行推波助瀾,因此惡劣的版權環境才是阻礙中國國內音樂行業發展的真正罪魁禍首。但是,目前的版權環境恐很難在短期內得到改觀,無論是數位音樂還是傳統音像業,都只能在這樣的現實之下從自身尋求突破。
