2010 solo album from the former Texas frontwoman. The Movie Songbook is the follow up to Sharleeni's Top 3 debut solo album Melody, and the ninth studio album from a 21 year recording career. A collection of Sharleen's favorite soundtracks,the album is a musical journey from Pop to Country via Disco, Bossa Nova, Folk, Rockabilly and Jazz. Phil Ramone (who has produced various Hollywood legends from Marilyn Monroe to Frank Sinatra via Liza Minnelli and Barbra Streisand) is on production duties for the album, which includes 'God Bless The Child', 'Xanadu', 'Cat People (Putting Out Fire)' and 'The Sound Of Silence'. 2008 solo album from the singer/songwriter and leader of Scottish Pop rockers Texas. Not only did Sharleen write the whole album, she also produced it, taking complete artistic control of its every sonic nuance. Steeped in the sound and textures of '60s Soul, '50s Rock 'N' Roll and Doo-Wop, it's an album that's vintage in flavor yet utterly contemporary in spirit. Beside the new generation of retro-obsessed UK songbirds such as Amy Winehouse, Duffy and Adele, it's a timely reminder that Sharleen was already dabbling in similar influences over a decade ago, be it Tamla Motown ('Black Eyed Boy'), Marvin Gaye ('Say What You Want') or Elvis Presley (cross-dressing up as The King for 2001's 'Inner Smile' video). Going solo has allowed her the freedom to indulge in such consuming passions even further, creating an album that proudly wears its influences on its sleeve. 11 tracks including the first single 'All The Times I Cried'.

It's hard not to see Sharleen Spiteri's first solo album Melody as some kind of reaction to the success of British retro-soul divas Amy Winehouse and Duffy, singers who expanded upon the blend of Motown and Dusty Sharleen sketched out with Texas in the '90s, turning it into something a little bit sexier, something a little bit more modern. Spiteri's response is to scale back the creeping upscale digital sheen of latter-day Texas records and get thoroughly '60s on Melody, crafting a full-fledged re-creation of the sound of soulful, swinging London. Strings sigh, horns glide, Spiteri is supported by girl groups as she sings sprightly melodies that often bring to mind Dusty at her prime, but she also cops a bit of Nancy Sinatra's on "I'm Going to Haunt You." There may be some slight modern flair in the drum loops of the title track, but Melody is noteworthy in its retro purity: it's a sleek yet warm tribute to classic '60s pop, sounding richer and fuller than almost anything Texas did after turning into U.K. stars. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

於90年代引領風騷的在Female Fronted Band潮流中佔上成功一席，入籍蘇格蘭團Texas女主音的Sharleen Spiteri，將近二十年的歌唱歲月中，拿下15張白金+4張金唱片銷售紀錄，抱走Ivor Novello大賞「傑出創作」獎項，豐富多元的音樂變化不斷滿足樂迷期待與渴求的心。

Texas其名靈感來自德國大導演Wim Wenders執掌經典鉅片「Paris, Texas/巴黎德州」。1989年發行偏向藍調根基的首張大碟『Southside』引起極大迴響，擠進英美專輯榜Top3與Top88。但是接連兩張專輯反應不理想，讓好勝心極強的Sharleen感到些許挫敗，遠赴巴黎潛心找尋創作與表演動力，1997年復活作『White On Blonde』，讓Texas攀上事業高峰，創下全球四百萬張銷售量，連續五首單曲飆進英國金榜Top10，半年後專輯再回溫至冠軍寶座，得到英國電台播歌率最高團體之頭銜，接著『Hush』專輯直襲英國冠軍，歐洲各國拿下白金唱片紀錄，就連2000年的紀念精選，依然亮眼空降英、法冠軍。2003年祭出英國Top5『Careful What You Wish For』後，自信打造『Red Book』第七張錄音室大碟，沉浸在Disco-Pop熱潮中，獲得媒體一致推崇。

就在Texas休兵空檔之際，Sharleen單飛不解散的問世第一張完整個人作品【Melody】，從詞曲撰寫、製作、吉他/鋼琴等樂器演奏，Sharleen包下大半部份，開場的“It Was You”另外請到Bernard Butler(The Cranberries、Duffy 、Manic Street Preachers)聯合掌盤，意外包裝復古靈魂放克調性，散發如Duffy大暢銷曲“Mercy”相似味覺；第一波進榜單曲“All The Times I Cried”，依然踩著迷人靈韻色彩步伐，劃出一道甜而不膩的溫暖氣息；瀰漫些許Portishead靜謐民謠式的同名作“Melody”，勾勒迷離深邃的冷調美感；混搭鄉村和藍調音符的“I`m Going To Haunt You”，巧妙在傳統與時興概念中取得平衡；絃樂柔和調入挾帶淡淡爵士風情之“You Let Me Down”，一再顯現Sharleen大膽嘗鮮的企圖心，勇於突破的拱出一首首耐聽回味的精緻小品集。
