Talking Heads frontman and general art-pop oddball David Byrne has penned an Imelda Marcos musical (as you do), and he’s since turned into a double concept album.

Well-connected Byrne has roped in Fatboy Slim on production duties, and bagged a seriously impressive list of WAPS-worthy guest vocalists such as Tori Amos, Cyndi Lauper, Roisin Murphy, Sia, Santigold, Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine) and Camille. We’re intrigued!

As we reported last week, Talking Heads frontman and general art-pop oddball David Byrne has penned an Imelda Marcos musical. One of the songs on the concept album is a duet called ‘Why Don’t You Love Me‘ by Cyndi Lauper and Tori Amos, which just surfaced in full. Enjoy.

大衛．拜恩，於1974年成立了臉部特寫樂團(Talking Heads)，並在臉部特寫合唱團任內就已是寫歌主力，刻意古怪的唱法與嘲諷的歌詞，加上樂風不斷融合實驗新的音樂元素，使得樂團自1977年發行首張專輯及與名製作人Brian Eno合作以來，尤其是80年代的幾張專輯，都深受好評。可惜，該團在1991年正式宣告解體，之後雖有一、兩次的聚合，但大衛．拜恩與其他團員主要仍忙著各自的音樂計劃。1981年，大衛．拜恩除了臉部特寫的專輯外，也開始發展他各項才華，不過音樂上還是與臉部特寫息息相關，例如該團1986年的專輯“True Stories”收錄的就是拜恩第一次執導的同名電影裡的歌曲。另外值得一提的是，大衛．拜恩於1987年和坂本龍一、蘇聰三人合作為電影【末代皇帝】所寫的配樂，曾為他贏得一座奧斯卡。1988年，在最後一張樂團專輯“Naked”之後，大衛．拜恩才算真正全心投入於個人事業，並在1989年推出了個人專輯“Rei Momo”，正式以個人姿態創作，也藉由1992年的“Uh-Oh”專輯得到了兩項MTV音樂大獎的提名，音樂上則仍然持續秉持了一貫的實驗精神。

從80年代開始，拜恩就不斷接手並發行電影、電視的配樂專輯，2010的作品“Here Lies Love”，靈感來源意想不到的卻是菲律賓第十任總統費迪南德．馬科斯(Ferdinand Marcos)的夫人伊美黛(Imelda Marcos)，馬科斯與伊美黛是菲律賓政治史上最出名的夫妻，馬科斯一手讓國家由盛而衰，兩人生活極度奢華揮霍，估計貪污了超過1千億美元的國家資產，但這裡先撇開了政治的嚴肅問題。拜恩在這張專輯中聚焦在兒時的伊美黛與她的僕人Estrella Cumpas兩人的故事，並找來英國巨星級DJ流線胖小子聯手創作，這張概念專輯“Here Lies Love”，將來也有發展為迪斯可歌劇，舞台劇或電影的計畫。拜恩在此輯中邀請了大量知名音樂人前來助陣獻聲，資深派的包括：能與瑪丹娜相提並論的流行天后Cyndi Lauper、全球專輯銷售超越千萬張的Tori Amos、新浪潮傳奇樂團The B-52s其一主唱Kate Pierson、鄉村才女Allison Moorer、獨立靈魂樂派Theresa Andersson、跳脫自英國舞曲雙人組Moloko的女主唱Róisín Murphy、緩拍樂英雄Zero 7長期合作澳洲女聲Sia；中生代包括：所有專輯皆被專業音樂雜誌AMG祭上四顆星評價，橫跨搖滾與爵士樂風的Nellie McKay、The Polyphonic Spree前團員St. Vincent、出身音樂世家Wainwright家族的唱作歌手Martha Wainwright、與老前輩Roy Robinson及前輩Jenny Lewis相較的新生代歌手Nicole Atkins；新生代則有：融會爵士、藍調、靈魂、菲律賓民謠，發跡加州的菲律賓籍女歌手Charmaine Clamor、靈魂放克爵士Candie Payne、獨立樂團My Brightest Diamond主唱Shara Worden、NME最佳突破藝人獎得主Santigold(前為Santogold)、新進電子樂團Florence & The Machine怪怪主唱Florence Welch…等音樂才女。DVD收錄6支音樂錄影帶，影像加入伊美黛相關的歷史畫面，另有100頁的圖文書內含歌詞與寫真，輔助您能夠更快進入大衛．拜恩融合獨立、舞曲的“Here Lies Love”奇想。
