Robbie Williams is to end his self-imposed exile from the music industry by releasing a comeback album this autumn.
2009/8/5

The onetime Take That singer and solo chart-topper will unveil the first single, Bodies, on October 12 before releasing Reality Killed the Video Star on November 9.

Writing on his blog, Williams, 35, promised that his first album in three years will be “a killer” and would surprise fans as it contained the “old Robbie, new Robbie and a Robbie that neither of us have met”.

He also revealed that the album would contain a dedication to Michael Jackson.

“Couldn't get a lyric to fit on one of the new songs,” he blogged.

“When he passed away I rewrote it with him in mind.”

The Brit award and Ivor Novello-winner hasn’t toured or made an album since his 2006 effort, Rudebox, was rubbished by critics and won him the Worst Album of the Year at the NME Awards.

He had previously enjoyed a string of success, racking up six No 1 singles, including Millenium and Rock DJ, and selling more 55 million albums worldwide.

Worth an estimated £80 million, Williams, who is signed to EMI, has employed heavyweight help to ensure his latest album flies.

His team includes veteran producer Trevor Horn, who has worked with Tom Jones, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and Seal, and lyricist Don Black, who penned Bond themes Diamonds are Forever and Tomorrow Never Dies.

Recorded in London, after Williams returned to the UK following a stint living in Los Angeles, the comeback album will put an end to rumours that the singer had plans to rejoin Take That.

He walked out on the band in 1995 and the remaining four members split up shortly afterwards. Led by Gary Barlow, they reformed without Williams in 2005 and enjoyed huge success as the solo singer's career stalled.

Earlier this year, Williams said a reunion with the band was “looking more likely by the week”.

But if Take That fans were disappointed by today's announcement, Williams fans were anything but.

This afternoon his website was awash with fans wishing him well, the messages summed up best by one commenter, who simply wrote: "Yay! Robbie is back!"
