無獨有偶，崔維斯主唱Fran Healy和歌壇前輩U2一樣，為了音樂這條不歸路，放下自尊向父母開口借錢，結果海利太太這6百英鎊成了最有價值的投資，從750張自製單曲CD變成1000萬張暢銷專輯，也造就了英國搖滾最重要的樂團之一「崔維斯」。
有人說，沒有崔維斯當先鋒鋪好路，Coldplay/酷玩、Keane/基音、Snow Patrol/雪警這些後起之秀的樂團，就不可能一路走來順暢。來自蘇格蘭搖滾重鎮Glasgow的崔維斯，成軍於90年代末期，在當時充斥著舞曲和電音的英國排行榜，崔維斯以獨特的清新英式搖滾風掙得一席之地。2000年崔維斯以第二張大碟『The Man Who』勇奪全英音樂獎「最佳專輯」，更於2000/2001連續兩年拿下全英音樂獎「最佳樂團」的殊榮。2002年，崔維斯因為鼓手跳水意外險些喪命，團員間也因為急速成名的壓力而產生裂縫，幾乎瀕臨解散危機，酷玩樂團就是此時在美國迅速竄起。而同樣在英國舉足輕重的基音樂團，在2004年甚至還是崔維斯巡迴演唱會的暖場團呢。
12年的歲月，崔維斯交出5張英國金榜Top 10專輯(包括兩張冠軍大碟)的傲人成績單，並獲得全英音樂獎、Ivor Novello等無數獎項加持，但他們卻決定回到原點，以當年出道時自創獨立廠牌Red Telephone Box重新再出發，換來的是全然的自主權和創作自由。只是這次他們不用再向媽媽借錢。主修藝術的主唱海利，曾經為了省錢自己設計唱片封套，這次為新專輯再度親自“下海”，完整地呈現了專輯的聽覺和視覺概念。
新專輯名為【Ode To J. Smith】，很多樂迷納悶J. Smith是何等人物，根據崔維斯的解釋，J. Smith在蘇格蘭是所謂的“菜市場名”，這張專輯是描寫並獻給默默無名的小人物們。2008年初籌備新專輯時，為了配合貝斯手Dougie老婆的預產期，崔維斯接受時間壓縮的挑戰，在短短三個月內創作並錄製完成新專輯。專輯標題曲“J. Smith”，數段吉他獨奏加上戲劇張力十足的拉丁聖樂唱詩班和聲，展現樂團的新生命力。崔維斯以這首標題曲作為起點，建構一張極具故事性的敘事專輯。從情緒高亢的“Something Anything”、“Long Way Down”到低盪的“Broken Mirror”；從抒情寫意的“Friends”，到恣意奔放的“Song To Self”，最後是清澈動人的結束曲“Before You Were Young”。崔維斯新專輯代表了樂團的重生、創作靈感的再現、還有充沛的原動力，他們不斷地挑戰自己的極限，激發無限搖滾創意，卻依然能夠左右聽眾的情感，征服樂迷的心。

Description
Travis release 'Ode To J Smith', their sixth studio album. Coming less than a year and a half after 'The Boy With No Name' the music is gritty and arresting, while the production - which took just two weeks - gives the Scots a new lease oflife that is sure to remind fans of their work during the 1990s. It's their first record to be written on electric guitar since 1997's 'Good Feeling' and vocalist Fran Healy sounds as passionate as he ever did.
