AKB48 has been selected as WONDA coffee’s new 2011 CM characters. The girls will be dressed up as casino dealers at an AKB48 roulette table and ask salary men “Which member do you choose?”.

The girls who will portray the dealers are Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko, Itano Tomomi, Takahashi Minami and Kojima Haruna. There will be several versions of the CM that show the salary men selecting a member and the dealer’s / girl’s various reactions to it. The different versions will be posted on WONDA’s official site on March 2nd at 10am.

In addition to that, on March 1st, WONDA x AKB48 will be releasing official merchandise through “WONDA x AKB48 Wonderful Roulette Campaign”. This campaign is for those who purchase “WONDA Morning Shot” and “WONDA Kin no Bitou” and can only be played online. The purchasers get to play roulette on the official site and select one of AKB’s 56 members and if they select correctly, then they receive original merchandise as a present.

15 AKB48 members will make an appearance in the new “WONDA” CMs which begin airing on March 1st. This campaign will run from March 1st until May 12th.

Furthermore, a new song was written for this campaign called “Korekara Wonderland”.


AKB48's Mariko Shinoda to host her own show on NHK

AKB48 member Shinoda Mariko will be the host of her own show on NHK, titled “Mariko-sama no Orikou-sama!” (every Wednesday at 1:05 AM), which will start on April 6th, and she appeared at the press conference held on March 2nd.

This show will be a collaboration between Shinoda and a documentary program, “NHK Special“, and it will be an educational program in which to learn “must know” common knowledge in “easy”, “funny”, and “short” ways.  The keyword for each episode will be related to the theme of NHK special future broadcasts.

Shinoda commented, “I appreciate this opportunity to learn about common knowledge which I did not know.  There are many things I don’t know about economical or environmental issues, so I would like to learn a lot.”  She also said that she would recommend other AKB48 members to watch the show.

Other than on NHK’s general channel, there will also be rebroadcasting on One Seg 2 (every Wednesday at 12:35 PM), as well as on NHK’s educational channel (every Sunday at 11:55 PM), and its special program (10 minutes long) is scheduled to be aired on March 12th before the show officially begins.



AKB48's Yuko Oshima holds solo event in Hong Kong!

On February 26th, AKB48’s Oshima Yuko held a handshake event in Hong Kong’s Dragon Centre, where she greeted 1,200 fans and performed her solo song, “Nakinagara Hohoende“. Oshima also appeared as a guest at the launch event for “C3 In Hong Kong 2011“, a.k.a ‘the Japanese Anime Expo’, which will be held in early March.

AKB48 enjoys an enormous popularity in Hong Kong, with two official stores selling AKB48 goods. When Oshima arrived on the 25th, she was welcomed by over 200 fans at the airport and was interviewed by multiple media outlets.

While in Hong Kong, Oshima enjoyed the local dim sum and expressed, “I was surprised because it was more delicious than [dim sum] in Japan. “ She then joked, “Maybe I should plump myself up before going home.”
