Lush, dreamy and redemptively creative electropop is the forte of Nanna Øland Fabricius, a former dancer with the Danish Royal Ballet Academy turned musician who goes by the alter ego Oh Land. Signed to Epic on the strength of her well-received 2009 SXSW performance, the 25-year-old singer and songwriter finds inspiration in the layered synth vocals (and edgy/witty visuals) of Laurie Anderson and experimental pop explorations of Bjork for her recently released and self-titled four-track EP. The successor to her 2008 debut Fauna, the EP lays the groundwork for her major label full-length now set for spring 2011.

"My goal is to sound like I'm from 2050," says Oh Land, "but still feel really classic, like the music is an old friend." Spacious, sumptuous production, twinkling embellishments nestled amidst fat plugged-in beats and Fabricius' sweetly textured, intricately arranged vocals elevate what could have been vacuous drivel into sweeping musical statements of intelligence and high style. "I want my listeners to dream away in it and make up their own film starring themselves," Oh Land observes. "And I wouldn’t complain if they were dancing a little bit too." For a jumping off point we recommend the particularly enticing EP track "Wolf and I" (stick around for the final dazzling minute). Watch the video for "Sun of a Gun" after the jump.
