Confirmation of Semi-Final Decided today:

GERMANY v SPAIN - Durban - Weds. 7/7/2010.

The first Semi-Final takes place on Tuesday between Netherlands and Uruguay. Look out for a preview on that game, which shall be posted soonish! Until then, peace out!

In Sharp Contrast: The classy-looking Joachim Low guides his silky German's to a 4-0 romp against Argentina, literally leaving them out of sight!

Just when you thought that this years version of events could not get any crazier. Joint-favourites Argentina hit a mahoosive new 'Loew' (pun intended) today by dropping to an astonishing 4-0 defeat to Germany. Don't get it twisted at all - Germany were quite literally out of this World. Every single time they play now, you can see a sense of urgency from them, and that they know exactly how to go about their jobs. They have proved today that they're world-beaters, all but unstoppale on this form. They'll face Spain in their semi-final on Wednesday - a repeat of the Euro 2008 final. Spain again unimpressively laboured past a determined Paraguayan side and ended up winning 1-0 again, thanks to that man David Villa again. Just a note to Senor Del Bosque...you play like that against the Germans, and you're gonna get creamed! BIG time.

ARGENTINA 0-4 GERMANY (ARGENTINA ELIMINATED!!!)

Thomas Muller heads in Germany's 1st of 4 against Argentina in only the 3rd minute! They'll face Spain in the semis after an amazing win.

There's no such thing as surprises in this tournament anymore. Something of this sort had been coming for ages - plenty of goals, and the side that was cleanly expected to win was crushed. That happened today, but it was the margin of the victory, as well as Germany's pure dominance and the fact that Argentina just didn't show up today that people will question. This was however, the 3rd time that Germany hit 4 in a match during this tournament. Their distinct fluidity is becoming a tad annoying for everyone who's not Deutsch now! As well as their consistancy, other than that little set back against Serbia. With this form, and with an out-of-sorts Spanish side to play in the semis, Germany look odds on to win their first World Cup since 1990. But havin bigged up Brazil and Argentina last week with their chances, I'm not gonna go hardcore on predicting things anymore. All I can say is that maybe S.American's don't own football, as many of us were saying a mere 48 or so hours ago. The only blemish on this game is the fact that Thomas Muller will miss out against Spain on Weds. due to a booking that he picked up. Other than that, Aregntina's defence was as shit as England's last week, so Germany had a decent afternoon ahead of them. They were 1-0 on only 3 minutes. The amazing BASTIEN SCHWEINSTEIGER lofted in a perfect free-kick for THOMAS MULLER to bury home with a header, past a stranded Romero. Surely Argentina could bounce back? well they produced naff-all in the remainder of the first half. They were pretty much shooting from the half way line, and finallyyy....LIONEL MESSI had a bad, unproductive day, where nothing went in the way of him or his frontline colleagues. Higuain and Di Maria passed the ball into the keepers arms in the way of shots, but anytime Argentina looked dangerous, the Germans would smash them on th counter-attack - maybe the opposite to what was originally expected.

The second half began as all-Argie. Ofcourse, they wwre only 1-0 down at this point. They lacked a cutting edge though. Di Maria shot just wide, and Tevez's volley was blocked brilliantly by a solid backline of Neuer in goal, and Mertersacker at centre back. He keeps being linked with Arsenal, so watch out! This Argie pressure lasted only about 15 mins. From the 67th minute onwards, it was all Germany. They scored 2 goals in a 7 minute spell at this point, and virtually anhilated any Argie hopes. For 2-0, MIROSLAV KLOSE 'klose'd' in on a World Cup scoring record by tapping into an empty net, after great wing-work by Lukas Podolski. Then for 3-0, ARNE FRIEDRICH scored his first of the competition very similarly - this time Schweinsteiger got to the edge of the box to roll back to the centre half to tap in. Stunning in its simplicity. Can you believe that it was nfact Argentina chasing shadows!? wtf!? The goal that made it 4-0 just rubbed salt in the wounds, but probably had many English fans smiling, because the game ended without an Argie goal to 4 German ones. England scored 2 legit (1 disallowed, remember!) goals against Germany. Matty Upson did what Messi couldn;t do - score in this World Cup! the goal was score after the subdued Mesut Ozil crossed perfectly for KLOSE to volley in a 4th. Should he get 2 more goals in this competition, he'll be the all time top scorer in World Cup football. Should the Germans continue like this, they'll be gunning for a 4th world title. 4. Now that seems appopriate, right!?

PARAGUAY 0-1 SPAIN (PARAGUAY ELIMINATED!)

David Villa celebrates in style again with Cesc Fabregas after another narrow 1-0 victory for Spain against Paraguay, meaning Spain will face Germany in the semi on Weds!

It may seem like a drab game, and to be honest it was at times, as Spain got into theri first ever World Cup semi final. But, in the second half especially, there was incredible drama which entertained us slightly in an overall, boring-ass display again from Spain. Where's all this classy football they we're expecting from them!? Instead, we're getting graft and hard-fought victories which is okay I guess if you wanna win it, its just a bit annoying when you look at their team sheet. Spain have no choice but to up their game for when they play Germany. FERNANDO TORRES especially, who game after game, disappoints even more. He was subbed after 56 mins. today for Cesc, and did all but nothing again for an hour.
Paraguay started the game on the upper hand with a fast paced game plan. They had a couple'a pot-shots and their great crosses always worried the Spanish defence but lacked a killer-ending. NELSON VALDEZ, who looked sharp today, even had an effort ruled out for a tight offside. Spain were largely no where again for the best part of the first half. They were found to be roling the ball around midfield alot, but that was that. Anyone ahead or behind them was scarcely involved. Paraguay read this and broke it up regularly.

In the second half, XAVI had a magic moment but shooting first time on the turn but it didn't quite work out for him, before the MOST EXCITING PART OF THE GAME - THE 2 PENALTIES (OR 3) IN A MINUTE!!. Firstly, Pique had clearly fouled Oscar Cardozo on 57, who's tame shot was easily held on to by Casillas, and Paraguay's one big second half moment was gone. How poor was that. Twat. Directly down the other end of the pitch, Alcaraz brought down David Villa for a penalty, which XABI ALONSO originally scored. It had to be retaken for infringement and was subsequently SAVED! Wtf!? Finally some drama, but still no goals! Cesc and Ramos were close but not close enough from follow ups.
Spain had all the ball after this and finally broke the deadlock on 83 mins, as DAVID VILLA equalled a record of 5 goals in a single go in this tournament, with a guaranteed 2 more games to play now (semi-final & Final OR 3rd Place Playoff). Another Spanish attack got the ball in the box to sub Pedro who struck a post, which fell back directly to Villa to curl a shot which bounced in off both posts and the goal line. Even when it did come, it was marginal! Casillas saved well from Santa Cruz at the end of the game, while Villa could've had another, which would've been harsh. So a lose and unconvincing game with 1-2 moments of excitement, and yet again, the Spanish have failed to convince. I blame Del Bosque! At this rate, Wednesday will be their last day.
