In the sense that folk music is, and should be a communal music, the eight members of Shoreline form part of a larger collective of Brighton based folk acts, operating under the banner of The Willkommen Collective.

Together with their satellite bands which include Moonshine-Moonshine, Sons of Noel & Adrian (Shelsmusic), and notably The Miserable Rich (who are currently receiving a tremendous amount of airplay from BBC 6 Music deejays Marc Riley, Gideon Coe, and Radio 1’s Colin Murray, in anticipation of their forthcoming Humble Soul 7”/CD/download single ‘Pisshead/Boatsong’), Shoreline are heading up a burgeoning ‘new-folk’ scene in and around their home town.

With the release of their debut album ‘Time Well Spent’, the band are set to achieve the wider recognition they deserve as frontrunners along with the likes of James Yorkston, Nancy Elizabeth, Liz Green, and Adem in the new UK folk revival.

Shoreline's take on folk melds together a mixture of new and more traditional influences; the songs on ‘Time Well Spent’ are not traditional songs – rather, the band are informed by the instrumentation and arrangements found in trad-folk, with a line up featuring banjo, upright bass, cello, fiddle and harmony vocals.

While the sound is quintessentially English, it is apparent that Shoreline share an affinity with the likes of American ‘New Weird Folk’ acts such as CocoRosie and Joanna Newsom.[Read More]
