Lunascape is a 比利时[wiki]Belgian trip hop band founded in the mid-1990s by Kyoko Baertsoen and Walter Hilhorst. The group was initially formed under the name Calyx, but changed it to avoid confusion with a London drum and bass group by the same name.

Baertsoen and Hilhorst originally met at the television and film academy in Brussels in 1993, and began working on small-scale musical projects at that time, but their collaboration was interrupted in 1997 when Baertsoen joined the group Hooverphonic and toured Europe with them. On her return she resumed working with Hilhorst on the project that would become Lunascape. Their first two albums, Reflecting Seyelence and Mindstalking, were released only in Europe, but in 2005, their first North American release, Reminiscence, from Dancing Ferret Discs's Noir label, combined tracks from both the previous albums, bringing their music to a new audience. Tracks from Reflecting Seyelence were used in the IMAX 3D movie Haunted Castle.

Citing influences ranging from goth pioneers The Sisters of Mercy and Bauhaus to psychedelic acts like Pink Floyd to the ethereal pop of the Cocteau Twins, Lunascape create lush, moody soundscapes, dominated by Baertsoen's distinctive ethereal vocals. Many listeners first encountered them when Rhys Fulber's electronic music project Conjure One recorded a cover of Lunascape's "Tears from the Moon" in 2003.

Lunascape sound mixes catchy rhythms, ethereal samples and loops and rock Guitar, blended carefully with smooth melodies and Kyoko's enchanting voice. At the core of Lunascape are musicians Kyoko Baertsoen and Walter Hilhorst. The duo originally met in 1993 at the Television and Film Academy inBrussels, Belgium and began to fiddle around with covers and some originalmaterial. In 1997, Kyoko was offered the spot of lead singer for Hooverphonic and her work with Walter was put on the back burner. After touring Europe extensively with Hooverphonic, Kyoko left the band and returned to her work with Walter; Lunascape was born.Lunascape landed a record deal in 1998and singles began to trickle out overthe next few years. But it wasn?t until 2002 that Lunascape's debut album Reflecting Seyelence was released, showcasing the group's ethereal blend of trip-hop, moody pop, and electronic textures framed by Baertsoen's lush vocals. While the band was releasing singles in Europe, their first
North Americanexposure came in an unusual way. In 2001, Kyoko starred alongside HarryShearer in the IMAX 3-D film 'Haunted Castle'. Kyoko plays the part of TheMother and sings the Lunascape song 'Lane Navachi'. Kyoko became an underground cult figure. Fans uncovered Lunascape's European catalog and import versions began to sell in the US.

In 2003 Lunascape's fortunes took another unusual turn. Sinead O'Connor teamed up with Delerium's Rhys Fulber for his new project, Conjure One. The first single was a cover of Lunascape's 'Tears From The Moon'. Kyoko and Walterhad worked on the song with famed producer Rick Nowels (Madonna, Dido) inhis LA studio. Sinead and Rhys' version went to number 3 on Billboard'sDance Chart and hovered in the Top 5 for several weeks becoming a hallmarkof dance clubs throughout the world in the Summer of 2003.2004 marked Lunascape's return to the studio with their second release Mindstalking, as well as the score for another 3-D-Imax movie, 'SOS Planet.'That year, Noir Records released an American compilation of their first two albums in under the name Reminiscence. This disc included remixes of their single 'Mindstalking' and several video tracks.Lunascape?s new release is Innerside, twelve stunning new tracks, due out March 26th Innerside is also available as a two-disc limited edition release featuring an additional 10 previously unreleased tracks, including several from the tv series Flikken.

Lunascape Innerside: the inside has come outside: haunting melodies, deeply atmospheric soundscapes and Kyoko's angelic voice.
